    The Cap and Tax Fiction
Democrats off-loading economics to pass climate change

    http://online.wsj.com/article/SB124588837560750781.html

Even as Democrats have promised that this cap-and-trade legislation won't pinch wallets, behind the scenes they've acknowledged the energy price tsunami that is coming. During the brief few days in which the bill was debated in the House Energy Committee, Republicans offered three amendments: one to suspend the program if gas hit $5 a gallon; one to suspend the program if electricity prices rose 10% over 2009; and one to suspend the program if unemployment rates hit 15%. Democrats defeated all of them.

The reality is that cost estimates for climate legislation are as unreliable as the models predicting climate change. What comes out of the computer is a function of what politicians type in. A better indicator might be what other countries are already experiencing. Britain's Taxpayer Alliance estimates the average family there is paying nearly $1,300 a year in green taxes for carbon-cutting programs in effect only a few years.
Americans should know that those Members who vote for this climate bill are voting for what is likely to be the biggest tax in American history. Even Democrats can't repeal that reality.

    Re: Democrats are hanging themselves

Exactly why Pelosi had big trouble squeaking out a mere 4-vote margin...switch 4 yes votes to no and 219-212 becomes 215-216.

Why those 3 Republican amendments you ask...because if this wholly democrat travesty of a tax gets signed into law, it is likely that all 3 events the failed amendments covered will occur. And they will quite possibly occur before next year's mid-term elections and almost certainly before November 2012:
    1) $5 a gallon gas
    2) electricity prices up at least 10%
    3) unemployment at least 15% (Spain tried this shell-game policy and has now done away with it after unemployment went over 18%, double the EU average)

The Obama porkulus and Obama cap and trade (and unemploy and bankrupt) are indisputably the most intellectually dishonest political debates that have occurred since the Clinton administration. The porkulus has failed to do what it was supposed to do. The cap and trade shell game will create more economic speculation like what caused the financial meltdown, and it will have a neutral at best to most likely negative enviromental impact.

In less than 6 months Obama is well on his way to surpassing Hoover and Carter for presidential economic infamy.

    Re: Democrats are hanging themselves

A 300 page amendment was added to the bill at 4 AM on Friday morning.

The amendment was made available to allHouse members on Friday AM.

How many of the 219 "Yes" voters read the bill they approved?

Is this how you want your Congress to be?

That would be NO. I want requirements for additional debate and transparency before the passage of ALL bills.

In case you did not know:

Inhofe said the bill, if passed, would constitute the largest tax increase in the history of the country.

He scoffed at Democratic claims that “cap and trade” doesn’t represent a tax increase at all but instead is a free enterprise solution.

“MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) and the Wharton School of Economics came out with an analysis of what this is. They said that the range is between $330 and $350 billion a year. That translates in Oklahoma to $3,200 per family. Everyone who’s reading this story right now, that would be a tax increase of over $3,000 per family. I can give you all the documentation on that.”

Waxman-Markey Global Warming Tax Kills More Jobs and Kills the Economy

    http://www.heritage.org/Press/FactSheet/fs0028.cfm

Your Family Will Pay: Waxman-Markey will raise electricity rates 90% after adjusting for inflation, gas prices 74%, natural gas prices 55%, and an average family's annual energy bill by at least $1,500.

15 Reasons to Oppose Climate Bill

    http://www.clubforgrowth.org/2009/06..._climate_b.php

National Energy Tax: This is a tax that will affect constituents in every aspect of their lives. From transportation, to food, to electricity, to income - this is the ultimate regressive consumption tax to the tune of nearly $3,000 per year according to the Heritage Foundation. The costs per family for the whole energy tax aggregated from 2012 to 2035 are estimated to be $71,493.

    Re: Democrats are hanging themselves

    http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/op...-49208987.html

By all appearances, the House is about to vote on a very long bill of which it has no completed official copy.

Texas Republican Reps. Joe Barton and Louie Gohmert have just asked the chair whether there exists a complete, updated copy of the Waxman-Markey carbon-cap bill.

"If a bill for which there is no copy were to actually pass this body," Barton asked, "could the bill without a copy be sent to the Senate for its consideration?"

Through a series of parliamentary inquiries, the Republicans learned that the 300-plus page managers' amendment, added to the bill last night in the House Rules Committee, has not even been been integrated with the official copy of the 1,090-page bill at the House Clerk's desk, let alone in any other location. The two documents are side-by-side at the desk as the clerk reads through the instructions in the 300 page document for altering the 1,090 page document.

But they cannot be simply combined, because the amendment contains 300 pages of items like this: "Page 15, beginning line 8, strike paragraph (11)..." How many members of Congress do you suppose have gone through it all to see how it changes the bill?

Global Warming is apparently so urgent that we can't even wait until members of Congress know what they're voting on.

The environment is irrelevant with this bill because it will either do nothing or worsen the factors claimed to be helped.

Pure and simple, this is either a tax and grab plan or a grab and tax plan. Take your pick.

Just another reason for ALL bills (including ALL admendments) to be posted on the congressional website for 30 days prior to vote. The public certainly has a RIGHT to see bills and comment on them before voting takes place.

Real fight over what the study means between MIT and the Repubs. Here is the report, it was done in 2007. MIT took into account only direct cost to families, the Repubs took in to account all of the taxes on businesses which do get passed along to consumers. Either way, we end up paying....

Taxes on businesses are the STUPIDEST idea that dems love to throw around. Ooooh "those big bad businesses" we'll get them this time! Doh, we just indirectly taxed another middle class family into the lower class!

It's done like this on purpose. That way they can say it's the companies that are causing us to pay so much, and not them, because they aren't taxing us, so they'll raise the taxes for those companies again to "help" the American people, then the companies either fail, get subsidized, or continue raising their prices and people pay more, and repeat, after repeat, after repeat... And that's why it cost $5 for something used to cost $.50.
