    U of Memphis secret report

    http://www.commercialappeal.com/news...an-releasing-/

For more than four months, the University of Memphis, athletic director R.C. Johnson and former basketball coach John Calipari successfully kept secret a report alleging NCAA violations in the basketball program during the 2007-08 season.

Amazing that RC Johnson did not release this when Cal was deciding on Kentucky. There are always rumors about who did what and who knew what when. If Cal did know that this went on, he gets off by leaving, and Memphis will get penalized. How many times does this happen when a high profile coach leaves a successful program, whether basketball or football.

If a major violation is deemed to have been the responsibility of a coach, the NCAA has the power to enforce its "show cause" provisions. This could result in restricting off-campus recruiting for that coach at the new school all the way up to a total ban from coaching for a period of time.

If anyone at Memphis knew about the grade-changing or helped with the SAT stand-in, then this could be heading toward major violation territory. But if no one knew and this incident is isolated, it probably wouldn't get to that level.
