    Bryce Harper

    http://www.mercurynews.com/athletics/ci_12590536

I'm surprised I couldn't find any threads talking about this. A kid is leaving high school after his sophomore year to get his GED to play Community College ball so that he can be drafted sooner.

I'm aware that Bryce isn't the first person this young to be talking about going pro.

    Thoughts?

Needs to grow up first... He will likely be a "failure" going after it early like that. But I guess quick money and retire may sound like a good thing.

I don't get how he is a failure. If he can get his GED early then what is wrong? I don't see any difference in him and any other pro that has skipped college for minor/major league baseball.

Nothing wrong with getting his GED early.

The results won't come close to the hype. He may become an okay player, but he won't be a spectacular one.

I wouldn't mind being wrong, though.

The kid is a freak of nature, its time for him to move on and play with the big boys. I'll pay to watch him play.

how are you qualified in any way, shape or form to make a statement like that? this kid has been called the best amateur prospect since alex rodriguez and far more advanced at the age of 16. he was called the best high school player in america as a freshman. have you studied tape of him? watched his games? how in the world can you say he'll just be an ok player???

I don't claim to be qualified.

A-Rod has been a bust, imo.

It's just a predictition... Like I said, I wouldn't mind being wrong. Baseball is in need of a new feel good story.

So, we're only allowed to make statements that we're qualified to make?

I'm just glad we don't have to play him.

look, i'm all about education. it's really important. but this kid is no different than any acting prodigy, or golf or tennis prodigy, or even any non-american baseball prodigy who isn't an american and subject to the first-year amateur draft.

It's risky. A whole lot of these prodigies don't work out at the next level.

Not my kid, so we'll see.

A-Rod a bust? I got a laugh out of that. Name 5 players in the world that are on par or better than him. A-Rod is far from a bust.
