I don't have a whole lot knowledge about past athletic directors either, but I'm going to say you're right. I certainly was not criticizing the job Dooley has done thus far. The young lady I talked to probably doesn't even realize how things were overall before Dooley arrived in Ruston. She's only concerned about her sport. I just thought our conversation was worth mentioning because I know there's a few people that lurk this board that probably have some pull to help correct some of those issues mentioned.

OK, I know I'm obviously very observant, but what/where were these blue balls? Off the top of my head, I don't remember them.

They were in the South Endzone or somewhere. Blue Footballs with past scores of games we won on them. Made out of plywood and just stupid and cheap looking as all get out.

Those along with the black tarps on the east side were the worst!

lol, haven't missed a game in who knows how long, but I don't remember them even now that you told me about them. I guess if I saw a pic I'd remember. Otherwise, I'll just blame it on my old age. Guess I'm always concentrating on the action on the field instead.....

Nothing to be concerned about. Dooley actually has a much larger --and much more credentialed-- athletic staff than what Jim Oakes had.

Bruce Van De Velde was the Athletic Director at Big 12 Iowa State for 5 years, and at WAC member Utah State, before coming to Ruston. He also served as a senior administrator at Oklahoma, Missouri and Kansas State. This guy is smarter than three fourths of the AD's in the country.

And Eric Buskirk came to us as an experienced Asst AD at UT-San Antonio. Buskirk is Dooley's Director of External Affairs. That means he's the genius (and I mean that respectfully) behind all these new improvements in our trademark licensing, corporate branding, new corporate sponsorships, ticket operations, marketing and promotions, website revenue generation, and the development of new partnerships, such as the Learfield Sports agreement and the new partnership with Sprint. I find it absolutely facinating that we've been able to keep Buskirk and Van De Velde as long as we have. These guys are the backbone of the new Louisiana Tech Athletics.

The list of qualified people Dooley has hired since arriving in Ruston goes on and on. But I think you get the picture. Unlike Oakes, Dooley has done a great job of surrounding himself with VERY experienced and very qualified "athletic affairs" people. These people are pros at what they do, so Dooley doesn't HAVE to do it all himself.

During the clean up done to the stadium last year, they took them down. No more blue balls.

That's what you stick on (into) your blue balls and plant them into the south endzone hill.
