The US opened defense of its Gold Cup with an easy win last night. I was most impressed with Robbie Rogers and would replace Beasley with Rogers on the WC roster.

HD
This Gold Cup will be fun to watch because a lot of these guys will be playing down the road. I think most of these guys probably won't see a ton of minutes in 2010, but they may.
If Beasley is healthy he is valuable, but he isn't anywhere near even 80% and he is logging no time with his club which makes it worse. There is a chemistry between he, Donovan, and some others, but he has a long way to go before hw should be considered for a meaningful game again.
DHuss,
What you're saying is the WNBA is just waiting for the right time to explode?? LOL
According to HD. Nah, I dont want to speak for HD because he mostly just takls about college women's bball, I dont know his thoughts on the WNBA. Women's basketball will never be that popular for one reason, there is much more exciting alternative.
I believe soccer will continue to gain a bigger fanbase here in the States because of its prominence in the world. I dont know necessarily if League play will ever be big, but national play will continue to become more popular, especially as the US gets better.
The league is on solid footing and that is about as much as we can ask at this point in the U.S.
Yeah. I am proud that most teams have or are building their own house. It makes a difference in the profitability of the organization when they are paying rent and can put their own venders etc. in their venue.
The ultimate success of the league will come from our youth system developing quality domestic talent that will add depth to the rosters. You let that talent mature through college or reserve programs and you will see a much better product form top to bottom with so much more of a stable foundation.
The good thing is barring a major problem soccer has finally established a foothold that isn't going to loosen.
It will be very interesting to see what everything looks like after the clubs develop there own strong academies like they do in Europe and South America. I would be very curious to see how that effects the decisions of top players when faced with the choice of immediately joining the LA Galaxy reserves/academy or going to play soccer at Duke. I imagine there won't be a difference in the talent level of the player that chooses one or the other but the academic standing of the player. In England though you would see the kid choose the Everton Academy over College 9 times out of 10. It might eventually end up similar to the Pitcher who throws 93 MPH and is drafted by the Mets but is also offered a scholarship to Ole Miss for instance. While college is extremely important I think you can say MLS has really arrived when the choice isn't so obvious anymore and more kids are choosing the MLS over college.
I didn't know Grenada wasn't part of the U.S.
Honduras next
