I don't understand this thread.

I guess this is what he's talking about...it's the only significant news story that I can think of.

Slick Willy can get some stuff done every now and then. I had little doubt he would get them, I just dont know what we had to promise to that crazy ass to make this happen.
I think Kim Jong Il was just happy he got a photo-op with a former president of the US. It makes him look legitimate to his people. He probably told the North Koreans that Clinton came and begged him for mercy and he is a merciful leader so he showed compassion to the Americans. (what a great guy)
It was a good thing to bring them home. Unfortunately it gave crazy Kim more credibility to his people - and more credibility that the USA is "out to get" NKorea. He made it seem like the US government sent them in.
We needed to get them out though, so it doesn't matter. Our military has the capability to obliterate them if they try anything funny.

I've always sorta liked President Clinton. This is one reason why. He plays the game well. The pundits will gnaw at him, but he got the girls back without giving away anything of significance. I think he was the right person for it as well. Sending the sitting SoS would legitimize it more while not appealing to Il's starlust as much.
I think the Koreans said they would let the girls go if the U.S. sent Bill. We were just doing what they requested. KJI has always wanted Clinton to go there.

Let's see, I have one. I hear the Taliban will let that wandering US Soldier go if Obama himself goes in person and begs the Taliban for his release. Do we send him? Would he go?
