Sulphur, La. - Gary, Kelly, Jarod, and Annabel Keers purchased the right to name the Vincent Settlement Elementary School driveway at the school’s first-ever fundraiser auction and dinner. The Keers named the driveway “Dooley’s Dawgs Drive” to honor the Louisiana Tech University 2009 Independence Bowl Champions, and to honor all the University’s student athletes and their drive for academic excellence.
LATech has the top athlete graduation rate of all Louisiana universities. This name fit well at VSE, as VSE in 2008 was one of 147 schools in the United States recognized by President Bush as “A National School of Excellence” and continues to score well above the state and national averages on standardized tests.
La. State Representative Mike Danahay was on hand to declare the drive officially open for business. He has been a strong supporter of VSE and continues to support the public education system in Louisiana, both at the primary and secondary levels.
VSE will hold another fundraiser in the spring of 2010 with the proceeds to be used to purchase a variety of new technological and educational equipment for the school.
