    Share your Auburn Trip Story

Our group came from Ruston, ATL, and New Orleans and we had a great time even though we lost. We met up with the aviation organization in AU and their president showed us around. We headed out for pizza for dinner and it was awesome. We went to the 17&16 bar (or 16&17, can't remember) and the Auburn students/fans were very friendly and came up to talk to us regularly. We ended the night a someone's apartment, not sure who...We got back into the hotel room at 3:30am.

Game day, after 4 hours of sleep I was ready to go, I wasn't bad off from Friday night. We headed out and found the La Tech Alumni Association tent. Who ever set that up and who ever cooked, it was a great spot and a great time with great food. We met back up with the Auburn aviation guys at their tailgate. Some of my group was stopped and asked if they wanted to play the bean bag toss game along the way. Some of their fans would ask about our thoughts on the game and start nice conversations. By the time it came to head into the stadium, I was ready for football. My voice was gone by the end of the first quarter, but still tried to make some noise. After the game we stopped by some sandwich shop which was excellent. We encountered our only bad Auburn fan there. We were all pretty wiped after the game. We met back up with an old Auburn grad who was near the Alumni tent who had a widescreen setup. Then we headed over to the post-game show and got some questions in. Thanks for letting us do that by the way guys, it was fun. I can't say enough about the experience we had with their fans, it was great.

Besides the game, it was a great time and recommend going if we play them again. I'm not too worried about the season, our guys are tough enough to move past this game and get ready for Navy. I have already moved on, and can't wait till next Saturday!

    How did your weekend go?

The classiest opposing fans I have been around EVER! We had so many come up and chit chat with us- showing a HUGE amount of respect to Tech.

Nice place- Just wish we would have come away with the W- On to Navy.

10:00AM Left Mobile headed for Auburn with the wife and two boys.
10:30 Realized we (I) left the tickets on the kitchen counter.
11:00 Left Mobile (again) headed for Auburn with the wife, two boys and tickets.
    3:00 Arrived @ Auburn
3:15 Lemonade @ Toomer's Drugstore and tailgaiing with our Auburn nextdoor neighbors. Lot's of "welcome to Auburn" and "great to have y'all here". Very friendly people.
4:00 LA Tech Alumni tailgating. Great BBQ, the boys loves the chilled fruit. Enjoyed visiting with some friends and fraternity brothers I haven't seen in a while.
    5:00 Headed into stadium.
5:20 Bought $40 worth of cokes, popcorn, M&Ms, snocones, etc.
5:40 Saw the Eagle fly. My 5 yr old said it was the coolest thing he's ever seen.
5:50 Auburn marching band pregame, My 5 yr old said it was the coolest thing he's ever seen.
6:00 Kickoff. Enjoyed rootin' for the dawgs with a great group of fans. 5yr old got to use the Tech cheers he's been learning. He thought it was "awesome".
Halftime $20 more worth of snacks.
3rd quarter Game getting out of hand.
4th quarter 2yr old asleep, 5yr old thinks that football games are "the best thing ever".
10:30 Pass through toilet papered Toomer's Corner, leave Auburn for Mobile. 2yr old still asleep, 5yr old still yelling "how 'bout them dawgs" and declares that this was the best thing we've ever done.
    10:35 Both boys asleep.
    02:00 Arrive home.

Had a blast and would do it again, just would hope for a different outcome on the field.
    Go Dawgs.

What he said. Stayed in Opilaka (sp?) at the Fairfield Inn. Rode the shuttle in. Had a great time meeting many AU fans. A lady who works the breakfast buffet also works at AU. She said the Library always has posters about the up coming game and she read the Legend of the Bulldog on the display. Watching the Eagle fly is always good. They say this was the new bird and it seemed disoriented by the crowd and circled the stadium a few more times than normal.

Re: Share your Auburn Trip Story

As I mentioned on another thread I sat in a section reserved for Auburn "Scholarship donors", and other than the ones sitting next to me, didn't have a lot of interaction with them. They were all a bit tense until the TD from the eight yard line. Just before Auburn threw that pass I told the Auburn guy next to me that I hated it when the other team starts inside their five yard line. Seems like Tech always give up a long TD in that situation.

I also was able to park in a lot about a hundred yards from the Tech tent, so I dropped by and got some of that great BBQ. The only person I recognized was Leo Sanford so my wife and I didn't stay very long. I'm sure some of you BBB'ers were there, but I don't know who you are other than Dwayne from Minden and I didn't see him.

I saw Dawgpix on the way to our seats, he was catching the elevator down as we were going up.

I was proud of the amount of blue I saw on the other side of the stadium, and I heard you cheering for the dogs at one point in the first half, which meant y'all made some noise and the 80+ thousand Auburn fans were in a bit of a shocked silence.

The second half wasn't much fun, and I am too old to party, but all in all, I was still glad I went to the game.

I sat on the upper lever on the 50 yd line, on the home side. Right smack in the middle of all things Auburn. I yelled and cheered just as loud as I could the entire game. The fans around me were great. The guy right in front of me, whose ear I was yelling in all game, and I joked around all night. Got a few "welcome to Auburn" comments also.

Re: Share your Auburn Trip Story

After 5 hours of sleep, I woke up tired and sore from our football game (win!) the night before.

    6:30 Leave Minden
12-1 Arrive and drive around Selma (worst town in the world) and look for our Holiday Inn in which we had a free night. After driving up and down the road it was on, all we saw were shotgun houses and abandoned mansions. We call the hotel multiple times, but got put on hold and hung up on. Finally, after they refused to give us directions saying "they don't know exactly where they are", we said screw it, it doesn't exist, let's go to Auburn. Chick Fil A.
2:45ish Find a spot to park at Auburn. Talked with some Tech people, then walked around the stadium seeing what was going on.
    4:45pm Walk in Jordan-Hare
    4:46pm Awesome place. Good seats.
5:40pm Saw one of the best traditions in college football. Worth the ticket, just for that.
    1st Quarter We're in this.
    2nd Quarter We got this.
3rd Quarter We're not out of this.
    4th Quarter FRUSTRATION.
Postgame Walk around for 30 minutes looking for the truck.
    10:30pm Whataburger
1am RamadaInn in Selma (worst town ever)
    6:30am leave for Minden
1pm Get to Minden, get ready, go to football.

    Now, sleep.

I can't tell you how many times i was told "welcome to Auburn" or "Welcome to the Plains". It was a VERY warm reception for us and its the reason this was the third trip to Auburn to watch the dawgs.

Re: Share your Auburn Trip Story

It was the best visiting fan experience one could have ever asked for. The people were so polite that it was shocking. They wouldn't even let me wait in line for stuff and had me and my buddy go to the front of the line because we were guests! I didn't meet one mean fan, and actually we were WAY more rowdy in their stadium than they were, and I think some of them were a bit surprised. It took a while to disarm me emotionally because I kept fearing like I was in Baton Rouge for a little while at first. The game drove me nuts and I was pretty disappointed, but I'd go back to Auburn for another game. It was a really nice town.

We need all of our fans to see this and treat the opposing teams the same way in Ruston. I think for the most part we do, but this just reinforces how much that can mean to their experince.

I can't say enough good things about my stay in Auburn. We stayed at the Hampton Inn in Opelika. It was very nice. Loved the location and their staff. They had red and blue balloons and Tech pompoms in the lobby along with Auburn colors. They had a package of information waiting for Tech fans. Everyone was just top notch. "Welcome to Auburn" "Good Luck" "So happy y'all are here." The people in stores, both shoppers and the helpers were so friendly and welcoming. The staff at the Cock of the Walk was the same. Loved the Tech tailgate - the food was awesome as was the company (y'all know who you are!) and Auburn's campus is really nice. I LOVED their stadium. I would have driven all the way over there just to see that eagle fly around (we need a flying bulldog) - that was just incredible. By far the best and classiest and nicest place and fans of any of the away games I've ever been to. I hope we are treating our visitors exactly the same way. Everyone should be treated so nicely. Truly a good experience (well except for losing) and we had a great weekend and we stopped at the casino AGAIN on the way home and my mother won 300.00 so we are happy we went. It was a great football experience.

NOW ON TO NAVY - GO DAWGS DAMMIT!!

I think you're right, at least in the tailgating areas I think we do a good job of welcoming our "visitors." I hate the redneck high school booing of the opposing team (except maybe Hawaii and Fresno ) when they take the field at the beginning of the game though. Fun thread. Makes me wish I could have gone.
