    Re: peeve of the day

Is it too much to ask for someone to pay attention to what else is posted before posting?

"I don't know if it's been posted, but..."
"Forgive me if this has been posted already..."
etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc.

    Guess it's a good thing you can't buy moderator powers. I'd be a thread/post-nazi.

Sometimes it's difficult to check and see if a thread has already been started on these forums, given the fact that the search function SUCKS.

Yes. That was a peeve to put for tomorrow. I've been looking for post related to the state of science that I know was a somewhat big discussion for us education types and I still can't find it, even with just the words 'science' and 'education'. And in those results, ony 2 or three threads from the last three years show up when I know there were numerous more.

It really doesn't take much to read through and a lot of the time, someone just has to look at the name of the thread to get the clue.

    My peeve of the day:

The search function of these forums. It's completely pointless.

I don't know if it's been posted yet, but a big peeve since the upgrade is that the search function doesn't work as well.

    Good one!

When somebody leads a post with, "I don't' know if..." or "Sorry if this has already been posted..." at least they realize they may be re-posting information. The etiquette breakers are those who bust arse to start a new thread when there are three existing threads on page one.

not that the search function was all that great before, but it's completely useless now.

It's sort of like starting an old lawn mower...you have to do everything just right.

so, what you are saying is that I shouldn't start a "what are your worst pet peeves" thread.

"right-sized", when used as a verb, always means "shrank". what should she say when something grows to the right size?

The typing form I use on my smartphone has been bleeding into my typing on a computer. Instead of spaces, I'm using n, likenthis.

I don't understand how you would be accustomed to using 'n' for the space key on your phone?

Used to do this with my wife's Blackberry until she switched to IPhone.
