You know it doesn't need to be an all or nothing thing.

2)Is that (Iraq) the only reason you supported Ron Paul?? Because you obviously know he is very much against both Bush AND Obama's reckless fiscal policies.
The only way we will get rid of the deficit long-term is to make changes to make America more competitive in the world markets. That means reducing the cost of our health care while improving our health as a Nation, by stopping our importation of petroleum, and by acting on curbing co2 emissions. What does Ron Paul say about these 3 things?

How does that help our competitiveness?

Cutting off cheap energy and reducing business output will make the economy worse.

Yeh, it always seems to have a place when things start going downhill. It isnt talked about much when times are good. If you are going to do it, you have to do it the way it was intended to be done. Not just use it as a politicallt favorable "solution" to a downturn. Stupid politicians come out with deficit spending and say there is a whole school of thought behind this called "Keynesian Economics", yet they fail to mention that they are only covering half the equation and in doing so, they will cause a huge deficit that we will not be able to get out of. In theory, if you want to be a Keynesian, you would hope to have a surplus when times go bad that would help you pay for a downturn. You know much like smart people try to do on an individual basis, but that is too hard for the government.

We can sell the technology to other countries instead of buying it from them. If a global carbon tax scheme comes into existence, which I expect, then we would be in a better position.

What will the Chinese think of a "global tax scheme"? I highly doubt they will participate, and without their participation, what will be the point int he future? They will end up dwarfing our energy use.

What choice does Obama have? Either he runs huge deficits or we go into a Great DEpression worst than the 1930s. Not much choice. I rail on republicans because they have no new ideas and all their old ideas have failed. I like Ron Paul because he voted against invading Iraq and he wants fiscal responsibility. I think Obama will provide fiscal responsibility at some point in the future. The Lord knows that the republicans can't do it..

Not going to happen. China already has US bent over because of all of the debt that they have been buying up to this point, so they have a lot of leverage against the US. Not only China, but India, Russia and other developing countries will not sign on to this. You can forget about UN and sanctions, as that has been proven over and over again not to work (see North Korea, Iran, etc.) I believe that France, Germany and Russia if given the opportunity to make a euro, would skirt the issues around CO2 emissions just as they did before by selling "banned" materials to Iraq prior to the war.
