    Rummel vs. Westgate

Raiders roll on to the state semis.

Marks the 5th trip to the semis in school history. Have never advanced beyond this point.

Raiders are 13-0 this year. Defense continues to play well. Some of the injured players MIA are starting to return. Have not been at 100% so far in the playoffs. Would be nice to at least have our regulars in there going forward. We'll see. #1 RB is still out. Has not played a down in the playoffs. Offense has sputtered without him.

    dawg80:

I saw the Westgate-STM game earlier this year. STM rolled over Westgate. A good game plan and a solid defense will beat Westgate. Your Raiders are playing that kind of defense. They should be able to overcome Westgate's incredible speed, which is probably better than St. Aug's.

Listening to talk radio here in New Orleans this morning, a few of the Rummel faithful are upset they have to travel. At the same time, they've been at home for several weeks in a row. That will be the only big downside for Rummel. Playing in New Iberia in the semis will be tough.

The higher seed should always host games. That's part of the perks of earning high seeds.

If Rummel gets a fair shake from the refs....I don't think that'll be a problem...not like it used to be years (decades) ago when local associations provided refs, and if Rummel doesn't beat itself with stupid turnovers...I surely think the Raiders will win this game. We've won some tough road games this year already. Gotta bring the "A" game and just get it done.

The LHSAA system still has flaws that don't reward the higher seed. It needs to be addressed and not be dependant of "luck of the draw" in early games.

Example of what could have been: Had Acadiana won against Catholic. Higher seed WM would have to make a second trip to below I-10. WM only gets two games at home while lower seed Acadiana would have gotten three games at home.

JMO, but the system should adjust for the semis to allow the higher seed team to play at home if the lower seed opponent has had an equal amount of games at home.

Rummel-Westgate game moved to Cajun Field in Lafayette. Rummel gets a break in not having to play in New Iberia but now has to face Westgate's speed on a turf field.

    Thanks for posting this.

I will rearrange my schedule for Friday afternoon to be in Alex and south of there....then hop over to Laffy to catch the game.

You keep mentioning Westgate's speed. Rummel's defense has clamped down on "fast" teams all year. Have to believe that Rummel's coaches will make the necessary preparations. Hard to argue with a staff that is 13-0, the #1 defense in the state, and has already beaten 8 or 9 playoff teams, including quality road wins at E. St John, Barbe and Shaw..... It would be nice to be at full strength on offense, but that won't happen, so, it is what it is.

We'll take our chances with this staff, thankyaverymuch.

    Raider Pride!

I was wrong....Rummel is 10-0 vs teams that made it to the playoffs this year.

Of course, as it stands now, if they don't run that to 12-0 we'll be disappointed...

Fickled fans! But, that's why we are fans. Obviously the players and coaches already have a lot to be proud of.

Miserable semi final game. Westgate's QB cannot hold or throw the ball. Rummel scores on a pick 6 on a wounded duck that slips out of the QB's hand. Westagte scores on a blocked kick in the end zone recovered for a TD. Rummel wins 7-6 in the snow in Cajun stadium.

Neville ran all over Lutcher. Our QB commit looked good running the ball. I don't think he threw a pass. (Did not need to). Several 4th and three runs (trying to run clock in 2nd half) broke for TD's. I cannot believe some idiot had the Lutcher bulldog out there in the sleet and near freezing temps. That was a soaked miserable looking dog.

Haynesville shutdown the No. 1 team in St. John. The Tors looked good in another wet sloppy field.
Saw the three HS games on TV using picture-in-picture.
