If DM had been red shirted and had one mrer year left, he would get a ton of PR for his senior year after the year he had. He will get his reward in the spring.

The other problem is that he was underutilized. It is unconscionable that it took so long for him to be prominently featured in our gameplan. Very few teams could do much of anything to stop him. They should have been throwing to him over the middle until each team found a way to stop it. Would have kicked our running game up a notch or two in the process, too.

Also over the 2 previous years he as many DROPS as he did receptions. We can say that he was underutilized, but he was failing to capitalize on the few opportunities that he was getting.

you beat me to it. you can't say he was underutilized when he wasn't catching what was thrown to him. this season he finally started catching more than he dropped.

    Re: America's Best Tight End

First off, Dawg06 sets forth an excellent case for why Dennis should be considered as one of the best tight ends in the country. The numbers don't lie and he will go down as one of the best to ever suit up for us at that position.

Second, his number of drops are grossly overstated. Trust me, I have watched every single ball thrown his way throughout his career and the number of catchable balls he dropped can be counted on one hand. Conversely, the number of great receptions (which he makes look easy) are far more compelling than his drops.

Brian is right. He should've been utilized more often throughout his career. Now, there are a number of reasons he wasn't featured more often--he wasn't a good practice player early on, there were other capable players at his position all 4 years, we have been run-oriented, and we haven't had good passing quarterbacks. That said, the coaches made a mistake by not utililizing and emphasizing his talents to the degree they should have.

Bottom line, if you listen to Dennis, you'll realize he has no regrets. He never whined and he never quit--and he's a better man for it. I truly believe that one day very soon he will be a force in the NFL and he'll never falter in his support of his alma mater.

I agree 100%!! AND, thank you Boxer for helping this fine young man get the opportunity to make a better life for himself & his family. I KNOW that DM understand & greatly appreciates what you did for him & so many of us KNOW the same. Boxer, you are truly doing God's work with young people & laying up many, many treasures in heaven for yourself!!

Morris also had one hell of a hit on the San Jose safety that knocked him out of the game for a while.

Boxer, again... thanks for the work that you did in that kid's life to get him qualified for college. Without that, none of this talk would matter.

2 years ago, we were having the discussion that he should have not left the Defensive side of the ball and been a DE. YES.... he was underutilized in the fact that we hardly ever tried to get him the ball. It would have been nice to have something that we call a TIGHT END SCREEN installed in our offense, but we don't. It would have been nice to throw that seam pass over the middle, but we don't. I could go on for DAYS on the things that we don't try as an offense and that's part of the reason that I want a new OC. So I would say that it's the offensive SYSTEM that underutilizes TE's..... not specifically Dennis.

YES.... the few chances that Dennis had (the previous 2 years), he was 50/50 on catches and drops. I KNOW there were times that he was hit in the hands or chest and didn't hold onto the ball. YES... that seems to be something that plauges ALL of our WR's hence, I don't think that we do a good job in training the pass catchers. That's one of the reasons that I think Conroy should get moved to the academic side of football and not with a headset on.

The next BBB project should really be one of those football JUGS machines. This should be like FT's for the basketball team. We shouldn't have to dedicate practice time to it.... the players should take the inititive and get on the machine for a couple hours a week until they can catch without even having to think.

One more point is that since you admit that Dennis wasn't a good practice player early on AND he wasn't producing in those few chances that he was getting, we didn't have anything but POTENTIAL as incentive to getting him the ball in games. Aside from the Udaho game last year, the aTm game his freshman year and one other game (can't remember which one) his sophmore year, he hadn't done ANYTHING worth mentioning.

As crazy as it might sound because we all knew his potential back in 2005, I wish that in 2006 or 2007, he would have been RS'd. With A-Train and Mitchell ahead of him on the depth chart, we could have afforded to sit him for a year to better train him for his time as the starter. In 2005, I think that he was on the 2-deep until Mitchell passed him up. My outlook on next season would be alot higher with him here for one more year.

I'm thrilled that he's getting a degree and likely an NFL roster spot and I hope that he keeps working hard and proving himself. It's just great to see where he is as a MAN now and glad to see that he didn't fall into the life of crime that's runs through the streets in Shreveport where he came from.
