How many times this year have we run that?? I do remember one time to Morris earlier this year. Was it and actual screen or a dump off??

(in my defense, I was at the gate giving a ticket to my sister and nephew, who were late for the game, at the time of this play.)

Do you have actual statistics to support your statement, or is this just your opinion based on your observation? I agree with Boxerdog: his "drops" have been overstated (unless verifiable statistics prove otherwise).

    Great thread though!

We really enjoyed watching you play, Dennis!

Does anyone know if Morris has been invited to any "bowl" games?

No mention of it from Dooley Thursday. Boo is going to Senior Bowl.

Bottom line, if you listen to Dennis, you'll realize he has no regrets. He never whined and he never quit--and he's a better man for it. I truly believe that one day very soon he will be a force in the NFL and he'll never falter in his support of his alma mater.

This is a very good year for Dennis being a SR and draft with few top Tight Ends for the draft like we have seen in some other past years.

Was that 50-yard gain the longest play of Mitchell's career?

Well unfortunantly, Drops aren't an official stat.... and we don't have access to video from all the games (unless you recorded them at the time and just happen to save them).... so no. I don't have "proof" but up until August, it's 99% agreement that Dennis Morris' PRODUCTION has been a huge disappointment outside of 3 games.

This year has been one of the best from a TE this decade, and it's not even close. He'll get a shot with an NFL team, and I'm thrilled about that, but we shouldn't act totally offended when he didn't get any love from the award people. Up until 2 months ago, nobody had heard of him because he hadn't proven anything.

Just for the record, I don't think our team dropped near as many passes over the last half of the year as we did over the 1st half of the year. As the season wore on, we got much better at pass catching.

I think the big difference is that Morris and Mitchell began to be utilized more the last half of the season. Between the two of them, they account (IIRC) for half or more of the receiving yards this year, and much of that was in the last half of the season.

I'll admit it was sweet to finally watch him demonstrate a mere glimpse of his capabilities. I'm telling you guys, I have the privilege of seeing loads of stud athletes but NOBODY is like Dennis in terms of size, speed, and coordination!

I appreciate your comments, Doc. I realize that you wanted the same things I did--and we FINALLY got it!

Like Dennis said, our team just "came up a little bit short" but there's alot to build on. I can't wait for the Spring game so we can start arguing again.

Second, his number of drops are grossly overstated. Trust me, I have watched every single ball thrown his way throughout his career and the number of catchable balls he dropped can be counted on one hand. Conversely, the number of great receptions (which he makes look easy) are far more compelling than his drops.

Brian is right. He should've been utilized more often throughout his career. Now, there are a number of reasons he wasn't featured more often--he wasn't a good practice player early on, there were other capable players at his position all 4 years, we have been run-oriented, and we haven't had good passing quarterbacks. That said, the coaches made a mistake by not utililizing and emphasizing his talents to the degree they should have.

Bottom line, if you listen to Dennis, you'll realize he has no regrets. He never whined and he never quit--and he's a better man for it. I truly believe that one day very soon he will be a force in the NFL and he'll never falter in his support of his alma mater.
first off, i loved watching dennis morris catching and running for the Dawgs this year. he is by far the most talented tight end i have ever seen in person.

but i will still say that you can't blame the coaches or qb too much for not going to him more often early in the season. last season he showed the ability to drop perfect passes when he was wide open. he really stepped it up this season, but he still dropped a couple at critical times early in the season that had to decrease the confidence level in throwing to him.

once again, i'm proud of what he has accomplished this year and he was without a doubt the most sure-handed receiver we had this season. i hope that carries over to his professional career and i get plenty of chances to see him making great plays on sundays and mondays.

Dennis was our only offensive player that made the ALL WAC first team. Both Adrian and D'Anthony were first team on defense. Both Porter and McGill made second team along with Livas for specialists.

Are you including those thrown at his ankles?

Our offense lacked confidence period in the first half of the season but it wasn't because of receivers dropping passes.

    OLine
Receivers Routes (or lack there of)
