    Superdome games on TV

Why can't KNOE and other local TV stations secure the signal from Cox Sports and sell advertising to pay for it like they've done in the past? It's more money for Cox and LHSSA.

LHSSA must address this at their earlist available meeting.

From what I heard last night, this might be the last year for live TV. There were 14,000 fewer tickets sold last year, the first for live TV on Cox, compared to 2007, even though the majority of teams were from the New Orleans area (within 40 miles). It will be interesting to see what the gate will be for today's games. Last night drew 16,000 plus.

What a mistake that would be! The LHSAA finally arrives from the stone ages and they blame low attendance on TV. Is Tommy Henry still consulting? TV would boost revenues if they weren't giving away advertising and making access so difficult. I call BS. I can't BELIEVE that would even go there on the TV thing.

Tonight may break a record. I hear Rummel is out in full force and I know WM and Neville are.

    Maddawg:

Your reference to "Tommy the Terrible" Henry is quite appropriate. They should stick it out and find a way to make it work. Henderson has been asking a lot of people associated with the event for their opinion on topic of live TV, because of gate concerns. The New Orleans QB Club luncheon is on Monday, and I should be able to find out more at that event. It is also worth mentioning that Cox has concerns, as well. The start time for the 3A game has never been anywhere near the listed time of 8 p.m. Last night, it didn't kick off until after 9 p.m. It didn't end until 11:20.

I watched the Evangel-John Curtis game. I was impressed with Bridgewater and Thomas from ECA.

I'm LIVID that they would consider doing this. This is an event, not a fundraiser for LHSAA. People all over the state should be able to enjoy watching the games without being forced to spend a few hundred extra in that cesspool down there. As I told Henderson, the games being on TV will not keep a single fan of a single school from attending. A few casuals from down south may choose to stay home, but advertising (if they knew how to sell it) would more than make up for those.

Just finished watching the Haynesville vs S. Plaq game (sloppy and ugly game) here in Texas. I hope they keep the LA playoffs live on TV for sure!

    Re: Superdome games on TV

Sorry, I have not gotten back to respond. Had 45 over for lunch today (and all afternoon).

The current setup is a power grab by Cox Sports TV . . . or an ego trip for the LHSAA.
Or, No. 3 a lazy effort by the new folks at KNOE in Monroe. If the former ownership were in charge at KNOE they would be trying to figure out how they could broadcast the two local games themselves and sell the ads . . . . the Neville folks alone would buy it out easily (as would the WM folks). In fact, advertisers would probably buy both games.

Yes, Maddawg, the LHSAA needs to get out of the dark ages, the NFL trend where local NFL game broadcasts are blacked out locally unless the Superdome is sold out so many hours prior and broadcast and market the games statewide.

The high schools going to the 'Dome more or less have strong programs supported by good fan groups. Some fringe supporters will go but not all.

TV rights to these games paid by local TV can easily overcome the price of the fringe supporters who may or may not attend.

For the life of me, I cannout understand why some cable systems in the state WILL pick up CST and Comcast will not. They are the ones who are still in the dark ages.

Why don't they just put it OTA in the local markets via LPB?

And that's for all Championships - Sweet 16, Top 28, Football and Baseball....

Atleast we would get some value out of our tax dollars that support these stations

No, LPB has three or more digital channels now.

Heard today that KNOE tried to negotiate the feed from CST and CST wouldn't agree to a price. If so, LHSAA needs to yank this deal from them immediately.

Yeah, fans were not happy. To actually be there, it was maddening, especially between games. They took way too long to get the the next game's teams on the field for pre game warm-ups, there seemed to be too many commercials, and the referees were extremely slow with the play clock and stepping off penalties. IMO, If live tv's going to be a part of this event they need to start Friday's first game at 3:00 and Saturday's first game at 11:00 or 11:30.

    Re: Superdome games on TV

CST was the only ones that could televise the games live. All other tv broadcasts had to be tape delayed. KNOE did try to get them and again the call was not returned.

Also, don't think the good ole boy network is still not in effect with the LHSAA. Tommy Henry is gone (thankfully), but it is gonna take Kenny a long, long time to clean up Henry's mess. They finally got Chauvin out, now if they could get a couple of others out of there, it might start actually functioning respectfully.

The CST announcers are terrible, but they won't go anywhere as long as their businesses are still big sponsors of the LHSAA.

    Who's businesses? The announcers'?

The irony of it all is CST was replaying features and reports done by KNOE's Aaron Dietrich all night in the broadcasts, I'm told.

Dennis McCain and Rob Musemeche. They are business partners of a wine bar in BR and Musemeche Photography is the official photographers of the LHSAA.
