O so the news has struck a cord with some of you GREAT. Because it hits even harder to the coaches. All I have said is true NO RECRUITING = NO PLAYERS.
Now for anyone who thinks that flying is cheaper than bussing I have some ocean front property in Arizona I would like to sell you. I'm pissed about this and you should be too. Ask around and you will see that our coaches are not allowed to go recruiting and if they do they have to pay there on way.
Guys -
Alot of what he is saying has credence about no money for recruiting -
However, had the same problem when we were in the Sunbelt....
I would not be surprised if they had infact grounded all the coaches where recruiting is concerned
''Don't be a bad dagh..."
And will only get worse next year money wise.
There's no question that we're strapped. The question is whether or not we can do anything about it. Particularly, the question posed by the OP is whether or not moving to the SunBelt would alleviate our financial issues. Simply, it wouldn't. Even if we were able to become a full participating member from year one (which we could not...we wouldn't get a full conference share until a few years in), we would still see a net loss in revenue that would far outweight our decrease in net expenses.
This is not LSU and it's not Indiana (it's not even Utah or UAB (as far as hoops is concerned)). Coaches here have to do more with less. There is only one possible conference shift that makes sense and we can't dictate to CUSA that they add us.
I feel for the staff that they have these issues, but going to the SunBelt would only compound their problems. If any of them seriously think going to the SunBelt would help, they aren't looking at things clearly. The fastest way to boost our revenue and get us into a more geographically friendly conference is to win now. I know that it's harder to win with a smaller recruiting budget. The only way to increase that budget is to win and hit the bricks on the fundraising front.

The sunbelt is worse off than we are. It is true that we need more money for our overall athletic program.
As one of our wise board members pointed out, you can put together a small group of boosters to raise money for specific needs -- like recruiting.
We don't need to let the momentum slip that we've got going in basketball.

Every department at Louisiana Tech has a budget. Every budget at Louisiana Tech could use more funds.
If Coach Dooley needed more money for recruiting, he would get it.
We have landed some good commitments in the last 8 days........WITHOUT RECRUITING.
