Dooley Picked as 5th in WAC

In "The Real Coaches Poll: Ranking the WAC coaches for 2009," writer Drew Roberts lists Derek Dooley as fifth, saying "...the Bulldogs year wasn't as depressing as the record indicates."

He adds, "...2010 will show if Dooley is deserving of the praise most have heaped on him since taking over for Jack Bicknell in 2007."

I know everyone else will claim they knew Peterson was going to go 49-4 and have 3 undefeated seasons but I thought for sure Boise would take at least a small step back once Hawkins left. Now it looks like Peterson was the glue that held all that together. He has done an amazing job. Hawkins on the other hand has struggled at CU. I wonder how many more years he has left there.

Most likely exactly one if he can't get Colorado at least in contention for a bowl bid.

And you sir are exactly right! I was surprised that he survived this past season.

It seemed that CU played much better once Hawkins finally benched his son.

I bet he wishes he had stayed at Boise.

I also thought for sure that Hawkins was a goner. Only time will tell if that move turns out like keeping Frank Beamer did at Virginia Tech or just delays any Colorado turnaround by another year.

Ranking Dooley 5th in the WAC seems to be pretty fair. 2010 will be a "make or break" year for Dooley. By year 4, most programs either go up or down.

I do think Dooley has done a good job of building the program. But he's still got to prove that he can coach the X's and O's during a game with the top tier WAC coaches.

And for goodness sake......get us a punter.

Hopefully the 4th try against Chris Ault will be the charm.
