not being laid off doesn't mean you're going to be making the same salary next year.

The article mentions that nanotechnology is on "conditional maintenance" at Tech (I don't know what that means but it doesn't sound good). I thought Louisiana Tech University was a national leader in nanotechnology. The article also says something about the masters of engineering. Is there something I am misunderstanding?

We're a leader in research and undergraduate education. The whole program is still relatively new which is why the numbers are low and also why it is being given time to grow (thus explaining the "maintenance"). Not to mention it is talking about the masters program, not our cash cow otherwise known as the doctorate program. As for the master's of science in engineering and technology management, that program is basically an MBA with an engineering focus. It allows business students to come over and learn about engineering without getting to deep so that they can move into management roles in engineering departments. I've never been impressed with that particular masters program personally.
