RB Shakeout (Something has to Give)

    RUNNING BACK
    --------------
    Myke Compton, SR (injured)

    Lennon Creer, JR(RS)
    Kentarus Stanton, JR

    DJ Morrow, SO
    Tyrone Duplessis, SO

    Charcandrick West, FR

Assuming West is redshirted (and his skills as a return man and/or receiver may prevent this), that still leaves 5 guys. Compton is our best special teams player, and will play unless his leg fails to recover. He is a solid, dependable 3rd option at RB. Creer will play. Stanton will play.

That leaves Morrow and Duplessis. How will that work out?

Looks like just the right amount of RBs.

    My thoughts (FWIW):

Duplessis plays because he is versatile and quick, and becomes a de facto hybrid running back/short pass receiver, lined up either in the backfield or split out - when split out, the dump pass or screen effectively becomes an elongated hand off. This allows Dupessis to maximize his open field abilities while minimizing his lack of size (although he is admittedly strong for his size).

Morrow redshirts - Stanton is much like him but presently bigger and faster, but Stanton does not have a full 4 years of eligibility. Therfore, we can afford to redshirt Morrow as his understudy, since even with a redshirt year, Morrow will have three years of eligibility remaining.

Of course, all is contingent upon whether the injury bug hits us like it did last year.

I think we have to redshirt West. Compton will play special teams and get a few relief carries. Who knows how good Creer will even be, Morrow might take his spot.

I think Duplessis will be used as a pass catcher and will have plays just for him.

Stanton is the easy short yardage back.

The easy short yardage back that runs a sub 4.5!

I don't know if it's "sub 4.5", but it's plenty fast enough to get offers from Nebraska, OSU and TCU - and that's saying something. Guy sounds like a supercharged Joe Smith. I hope he stays eligible and is all he sounds to be on paper.

I think you'll see Stanton and Creer sharing the real carries while Morrow and Duplessis will be the "receivers" out of the backfield. There will be a lot of motion, so it's going to be good to have guys that can do both. I know Creer can, but I'm not as sure about Stanton. Doesn't coach Mick tell us every off-season that you can NEVER have too many good RBs?

I agree, Morrow should RS to get bigger and stronger, then he could start his junior and senior years.
