Whether it's Pac-10 or Big 10, there's gonna be a shake up in the coming months/year.
if the pac 10 acts I dont see the Big 11 sitting on their hands either. tech better have its house in order because there will be openings in the CUSA because of Big East poaching.
This says a lot:
Scott said there have been “no serious discussions” with any schools. He said the primary factor in the decision will be finding schools that fit into the conference culturally and academically.
BYU does not fit culturally. Not sure about Utah. Sounds like a lock for Colorado if they want it.
Expansion talk is all over the internet now.
Another PAC-10 article on ESPN yesterday:

Another Big 10 article from USA Today from a couple days ago:

The need for media dollars is driving both these situations. The need for media dollars and surviving the coming raids by the PAC 10 & Big 10 will drive all the other moves. This could get pretty wild before its all said and done.
Its been a few years since the last expansion cycle when the WAC lost schools to CUSA. Since then, the next "expansion cycle" has been talked to death on this and every other sports board. But now the window is opening and the talks have started behind the scenes. Looks like this is the year things break loose.
We're so much better positioned than we were last time and so much more aggressive about pursuing a move. Hopefully the admin will kick it up to an even higher level as the ball gets rolling.
Has all talk of a new conference that would resemble the old Southwest Conference gone away. Was it nothing more than wishful thinking to begin with?
PAC 10 - This is the ticking clock for us. Or if Missouri to BIG 10. We don't need either.
All I have actually read elsewhere, not on this board, is that it will be anlayzed and explored over next 12-18 months. Then will take several years for team to actually be in a new conference. Not all happening within next 12 months.
The new tv contracts are gonna be the primary reason that expansion is occurring.
You are going to find drunk students anywhere, except maybe at BYU... :icon_wink:
Colorado has a good reputation academically, they are very liberal administration and policy-wise. They will fit in well with Cal, Stanford, and the other west coasters. Colorado did express interest when this idea first arose many years ago. I don't know if their current administration feels the same way.
The PAC-10 does not have a lot options to choose from. Colorado is the only AQ school that is close to the current geographic footprint. BYU would fit in geography-wise, but I cannot see them being in the same conference as Cal . Besides BYU does not play on Sundays, or at least they did not in the past. Could make scheduling more difficult. Not sure how much the LDS influence affects the Utes and whether that would cause problems for them in jumping. They are a definite possibility I would think. I really do not see the PAC-10 dropping down to take SDSU, Fresno, Hawaii, New Mexico, AFA, CSU, or anybody else west of El Paso. I seriously doubt that they would only expand to 11.
There was talk about Texas possibly jumping, but that is very far-fetched for a lot of reasons. Don't see that happening in a 100 years...
