    1. 1972---Tech 7 USL 0 (we had to mount a drive in the fourth quarter to win ).

    2. 1973---Tech 19 Eastern Michigan 21 ( we lose on a FG in the 4th quarter & our sensational FG kicker misses for the win.

    3. 1974---Tech 16 Illinois State 7 ( a tough, hard-fought season opener ).

Do you remember these season openers LFR? I do. Anything, ANYTHING can happen in a season opener & usually does ( ask Mississippi State ). But, you & HD are correct. We should be able to give GSU a beating given the numbers & quality advantage we have.

SEASON OPENER--BEWARE of being a little too COCKY ( which is what we were at Eastern Michigan in the season opener of 1973 coming off our 12-0, 1972 season crowned as CO-NATIONAL CHAMPIONS.
Being cocky (and not having to personally back it up) is one of the few indulgences I allow myself in my old age!

LFR, as ole Diz used to say, "It ain't bragging if you can do it." But I really don't want to lose SD's debut, read somewhere that Spike lost his debut at TT in the I-Bowl. Nuff said by me.

All that's true.... but then there's:
    '95: 28 - 21 @ Bowling Green
    '96: 20 - 00 Middle Finger St
    '97: 30 - 23 Bowling Green
    '00: 63 - 10 Miss Valley St
    '01: 36 - 06 SMU (S'port)
    '02: 39 - 36 Ok St (S'port. Thanks Les!!)
    '04: 38 - 21 Nevada (I think GITMO's STILL running)
    '07: 28 - 07 UCA
    '08: 22 - 14 Miss St
Maybe we've just got better coaching now then back in the 70's
