I'm assuming it's being done as a kinda FU to the admin for wanting them to change their mascot and be PC. The article say's Ole Miss admin won't interfere but do you really think they'd allow this to be their mascot, the alumni would revolt en-masse!

Southern heritage is not negatively affecting Ole Miss - especially when looking at all the quality african american athletes they sign. Who put pressure on the admins to do this?
I guess it's the same people that believe you are humiliating native americans by naming your sports teams after indians, redskins, blackhawks, redmen, etc. Thus you have stupid ass nicknames like redhawks, warhawks and red storm.
But if you're the seminoles you get a pass.
Next thing you know, they will blast Notre Dame for humiliating the Irish and Louisiana Tech for humiliating english bulldogs.

This is a totally different animal - Colonel Reb was not the same as the native american mascots.
And it's not the NCAA pressuring the school, it's admins at the school.
