A toast! To Gimpcoach......

To satisfy my curiousity......
I have now read every post authored by Gimpcoach on the politics board and the flamer's board, and I have also read many of his posts on the athletic boards.
And, I have read the entire "Healthcare to be pushed through anyway" thread (and some other stuff) to savor the flavor of his give and take with others.

Personally......
I find the Coach to be an extremely intelligent and articulate fellow who demonstrates the common sense to question much, and the good sense to not simply step blindly behind any banner being ballyhooed by the boisterous boom of a popular marching band.

I offer particular personal praise for the following......
Wounded warrior thread...... Post #9.
Obama/gay pride month thread...... Post #37.
Kennedy death thread...... Posts #11 and #29.
Healthcare thread...... Posts #7, #10, #14 and #19.

And beyond the above......
I do not recall so much as one post when the Coach ever appraoched any dawg board with anything other than the honesty, and sincerity, and straightforwardness of a decent gentleman.

On the Heathcare thread......
Only 4 dawgs were responsible for referring to this gentleman as follows:
Partisan #13
Dumb ass mentality #23
Gimpy, socialist #33
Attitude, pissing as only skill #40
Idiot, crying #43
Socialist #45
Gimp, in wrong country #47.

And on the Trees thread/Flamer's board......
Coach was accused of being "not intelligent" by one of the same authors above......
And as being partisan...... Then later, as portraying himself as an inoicent victim by a 5th dawg author.

That's a mere 5 dawgs in a dawg reality where hundreds of dawgs freely roam and believe in their right to bark as they like.
And evidently......
Because of these 5 dawgs (2 of whom I enjoy dueling with/respect)......
Coach will no longer continue to be one of the very interesting and worthy contributors on the politics board.

Speaking only for myself......
I consider this to be a LOSS!
And I cannot help but suspect that there may be MANY dawgs (perhaps even some amongst "the 5") who share this opinion.
If so...... Perhaps they would use this thread to join with me in lauding Coach for his past efforts......
And encourage him to continue massaging our little grey cells with his often unique efforts.

I just read your post so I went over to that healthcare thread to read some of it. (haven't finished the last couple of pages) While I respect Gimpcoach and don't agree with him being called names I found that he either wouldn't or couldn't respond to some of Guisslaps questions. I think Guiss had some very reasonable posts that countered what Gimp was saying and did not get the same in return. For the most part he was ignored.

I think you're overestimating his response based on agreement with his views.

His argument was terrible and was answered by more than 1 person. I called him a socialist - which he is and just as much as I'm a capitalist.

I don't see why being calld a socialist would offend somebody if that's what they believe. I like to call socialists "socialists" though because for some reason the truth hurts.

Spinoza is a bleeding-heart liberal and I doubt he'd dispute it. (not passing judgment on the merits of any belief, just categorizing).

I consider myself a free-market capitalist and realist. I don't buy into the bleeding-heart theories of forced equality, fairness, or social justice. You'd not offend me with the truth.

Cruel? Surely. I believe that the government has no right to steal one penny from me to keep any person from starving. That is very different than willingly giving a dollar to help a starving child.

My opinion of Coach......
Is based on my subjective evaluation of the entire fabric he weaves with his seemingly sincere thread machinations.
I agree with some of his offerings, and disagree with others.
Coach has slapped my face on occasion, but he has done so with the gauntlet of a gentleman, and proved himself (to me) to be an honorable duelist.

BTW #1...... If I overestimate anything, it's the ability of any man to intelligently stir my thoughts with decorum. I laud ANY keen lunge with a epee, and I deplore ALL blind rampage with a big dumb club.

BTW #2...... I have often observed you manuevering your epee with skillful effect.
Ergo...... My high opinion of your thread weave.
What I do not understand is why you sometimes resort to using a club, while abandoning your obvious talent with the sword.

Look, Gimpcoach ADAMANTLY argued that is was hypocritical for Republicans to argue against SS/Medicare entitlements and then accept the benefits when they become eligible. He was arguing that if these people who oppose the system refused the benefits then some problem would be solved. That argument was assinine. And then he came and posted in your new home forum complaining about being called out on such a stupid argument.

I shouldn't have to state why such an argument is assinine, but in the interest of preemption - First, the reason people would be opposed to the system is because they would rather not have their money taken from them and then have the government apportion it (in possibly smaller amount) back on the conditions of the government's choosing. How does refusing the benefits of the entitlement solve THAT problem? Second, the argument is assinine because it ignores the fact that if Democrats were concerned with solving the referenced problem they could just donate all their money (or at least more of it) to solve the problem. If the Reps are hypocritical, the Dems are no less so.

I have no doubt that Gimpcoach firmly believes he was right, but the fact that he cannot see the other side of the issue only proves that he is overwhelmingly entrenched in his own liberal idealogy. If you are going to come around swinging the club blindly and ignorantly then you have no business complaining when others do the same, IMO.

Long ago (relatively speaking) on the politics board, I challenged every dawg in dawgland to a deliberate discussion/debate regarding the history, philosophy, and reality of what SOCIALISM actually "IS"...... With no ambiguity whatever regarding the meaning of "IS"!

That tread died SILENTLY in its womb...... With nary a capitalist or a pro-birth proponent anywhere near any pulpit at the funeral.

"Socialist" is about a broad term as liberal or conservative and is often twisted. He hinted at the wealth distribution being important, and hinted with anti-capitalist remarks.
