    Re: A toast! To Gimpcoach......

Can't we all just get along? Whether your a democrat, republican, libertarian, socialist, capitalist, comunist, christian, athiest, etc. everyone should agree what makes this country the greatest in the world is that we can have our own political, religious, socioeconomic views, etc. and discuss/argue in public. With the exception of the flamers from other schools (especially grambling), most of us have a great affection for Tech or we wouldnt spend so much time on this board talking sports, politics, etc. I don't know many people on this board in the real world, but if you love tech your a friend of mine.

So why do some have thin skin where they have to leave the forum because people with opposing views are turning up the heat?

I grew up in a large family where my grandmother was what we in texas called a yellow dog democrat and of her children my dad was the only conservative/republican in the fam. holidays were filled with spirited arguments. i loved it - because my dad was always right and my unlces always got pissed off about it.

If you gotta a position defend it - don't get pissy and quit because someone's calling you out on it.

With that being said, i don't agree with name calling, etc. but sometimes you just gotta let it roll of your back and focus on the actual challenges to your position. If you can't defend it, then you should accept the fact that people aren't going to agree with you and move on.

    Cheers.
Not that I speak for Gus, but I think we all acknowledge the freedom to ADAMANTLY make assinine arguments and will probably even confess to it. But when we do, we don't get upset and leave when people call us out.

Gimp wasn't voted off the island. He left of his own free will.

Seems to me like Guiss was not arguing over this gentlemans right to post what he posted. I'm sure Guiss agrees as much as you do that he has every right to post what he did. Guiss was simply debating the content of his posts. Clearly those are 2 very different things. Obviously you know this but it didn't come across that way when reading your post.

    Great post!

Message boards are really unique beasts. Just like e-mails, sometimes, things seem harsher than they appear. You really do need to have a thick skin some times. I've had my disagreements with members on this board, and then I realize that I'm on a computer getting red-faced over someone I have never met, and never have to if I dont' want to. I flip off the computer, crack open a beer, and move on. :icon_wink: We are both here for Tech, so I'm not going to hold a grudge! Maybe I'm mellowing as I get older.

I admit, I don't frequent the political board very often because I have seen it bring out the worst in people and can get crazy (on both sides). Passion can bring out the best and worst in debaters, unless you are a Master Debater (sorry couldn't resist). That coupled with the fact that I'm a fiscal conservative/social liberal means I don't fit in with the right wingers or the left. Oddly enough, there are people that politically I think are whackadoodles, but love their humor and sports knowledge. Would love to meet them in person, just as long as we keep the talk to sports.

I haven't read what happened, and probably won't, but I hate that someone possibly commited boardicide, and hope that they come back when they are ready.

I dare say, most members of this board do not participate in the political section. It is unfortunate to lose a member of the BB&B family over a section of the board that's really outside of the intended purpose of the site.

You're right. I wonder if some of the newer posters realize the only reason the political board was started was to keep people from talking about politics in the sports forums. Threads would get hijacked when someone would make a smart ass political comment about Clinton or something and everyone would get mad so they started a political site on the old Delphi board. There was also the Christian Chatter site on Delphi started by TDF? I think. Not that you can't like the political board just because you like posting about politics but like you said AG its a shame when someone quits posting on the sports forums over something in the political forum when the whole point of the political forum is to keep politics off of the sports threads
