Recency effect. We got spoiled with our hot runs early in the season. When we came back down to reality it felt like we were falling into the basement, even though we still have the best record we've had in a REALLY long time.
That said, I am FAR from calling for Rupp's head, but I am less than inspired by the inconsistency this squad exhibited, in particular the apparent rampant disregard for the gameplan that the team often displayed.
Those are all programs (or coaches) with a history of being tournament tested. It really is a different game at tournament time.

Not saying Rupp should be fired, but I'm also not saying he is an awesome coach, either. 23 wins means nothing if you don't make the tourney... especially considering this was supposed to be the best Tech TEAM in a long, long time. What did we win, 4 of our last 13 games? We've become so mired in mediocrity that everyone is pleased as punch to win a few. We won 23 games but finished in the middle of the conference and out of the tourney, and there is no telling when we'll even sniff a chance at the big dance again. That's the reality.
What happened to Northeastern? Are they definitely out of the dance?
They lost in semifinals of the CAA.
Inconsistency game-by-game and no continuity year-by-year. I wonder how many more players (other than our seniors) won't be back next year. Time for some more changes huh? I also wonder how many of our signees (LOI and GIA signees) will actually set foot on campus.
I will say that the Brown kid is going to be a good one, I just don't know who will play with him other than Olu and Deandre...
All Rupp needs to do is go out and find us a couple of jucos like Marco Cole.
You guys are right. I could get used to this 6 win season, 15 win season, and 23 season stuff with no tourney appearances of ANY type.
If that stuff happens then he deserves to go. But unfortunately for you that only happens when he was building his team from scratch.
Wow, this sounds like the UALR board over Steve Shields. He won 23 games last year and fans were looking to move him on. This year he lost 22 games and the group that wants to keep him is still the same and group that wants to fire him is still the same.
