If this turns out to be this case (as I believe it will), that NMSU win added about $1.8M NCAA money to the WAC over the April 2011-April 2016 distributions. Same with any wins either USU or NMSU get in the first 4 rounds.
Guess the WAC Aggies are no jokes then!
Great game, very well played. NMSU won because their guards out-played USU's. Winning at the highest level in hoops is done with great guard play.
Also, both USU on the men's side, and Fresno on the women's side, learned it ain't easy to beat somebody three times and long win streaks are meant to be broken, especially in tourney play on neutral courts.
Also, I was so HAPPY that Nevada was bounced out on both sides.
It'd be a crime for USU not to make the tourny the way they've been playing.
Mississippi State may have just stolen a bid from somebody with their effort in a 1-point OT loss to #2 Kentucky in the SEC Championship...
I hope they BOTH get in and they BOTH win their first-round games. The WAC REALLY needs to get those NCAA units back.
The WAC had 14 2004-2009 units for the $ distribution happening next month. 4 of those units dropped off from 2004 for next year's 2005-2010 $ distribution. It was critical to get that second bid or get a first round win to keep the money stable. One win now keeps money flat to possibly even a slight increase.
April 2010 distribution--$167,099,000 divided by 752 units = $222,206.117 per unit
WAC--14 units x $222,206.117 = $3,110,886
April 2011 distribution with an expected 8% increase--$180,466,920 (estimated) divided by 753 units = $239,664 per unit
WAC with 12 units right now--$2,875,968
WAC with one win (13 units)--$3,115,632
WAC with two wins (14 units)--$3,335,296

The April 2010 NCAA basketball revenue distribution document is here. 8% has been the approximate increase in total distributions year-to-year. There will be 753 units in the April 2011 dustribution.
