Hoop Troop gets an A+ for effort

Just got home from Reno... Of course I have no voice left, but had a great time cheering for the Dawgs and Lady Techsters! Rest assured that both of our teams unquestionably left it all on the Lawlor Events court.

Now to the topic: Whoever was responsible for getting the 30 or so Hoop Troop members to Reno- a big THANK YOU! They did Louisiana Tech proud. They played their butts off and cheered like fanatics for Tech, while also picking up some new fans over the last 4 days.

None of the other bands were even close to the HT at getting the crowd involved. Before each Tech game they entered by running around the court throwing Mardi Gras beads to the fans. When they sang "Heeeey baby, I wanna know if you'll be my girl" they picked non-Tech women to sing to. This was a HUGE HIT with the New Mexico State fans. A couple of ladies told my wife and me "We are so impressed your (Tech's) band director that we are getting 'I love Louisiana Tech' shorts made when we get home".

About 30 NM State fans showed up to support the Lady Techsters in the championship game and sat right next to our band cheering for Tech the whole game. Of course several Tech fans returned that gratitude in the men's championship game.

Just thought I'd let ya'll know what the Hoop Troop did during the WAC tournament.

I forgot to mention that they were also the only team band I saw which orchestrated a team pep rally before leaving the hotel for the championship game. You should have seen all of the casino gamblers getting up to find out what all of that loud music and cheering was about. Some of the hotel guests even joined in and took pictures with the Hoop Troop and Tech cheerleaders, Dan Reneau and Bruce VDV.

For all of you who helped fund the HT trip. Thanks. Both coaches asked for the Hoop Troop to come and with the commitment of our executive staff and some fine alums, it happened.
