Not so anymore. Today, "bigs" have got to be able to move, to handle the ball, and possess real basketball skills.
Griner can move. She has some "quicks" and has good hands and skills. Tennessee's 6'6" big girl, Cain, is more of a throw-back to 20+ years ago, and as a result she got dominated and was a non-factor.
So! at 6' 1" and 6' 2" if these players can JUMP, yes, get off the floor, and if they can MOVE, get up and down the court, then their height is good enough.
Look at Notre Dame, for instance, they have 4 true guards and no really good "big" but they get up and down the floor and as a result they are a good team. That's just one example that comes to mind. Xavier nearly knocked off Stanford, with all their bigs, and did it with athleticism.
I don't like recruiting this many JUCOS, one or two, to fill a short-term need is always okay. Three? But, this is Spoon's team and we have to trust she is doing the best she can in the tough world of recruiting.
