    Freshman All-American leaves Tennessee

Aaron Douglas, Tennessee's most talented and experienced offensive lineman, asked for his release Thursday and plans to leave the program.

The 6-foot-6, 287-pound Douglas earned freshman All-America honors last season. He was a star tight end in high school in Maryville, Tenn., and signed in 2008 under former Tennessee coach Phillip Fulmer. He redshirted his first year at Tennessee and was then moved to the offensive line last year under Lane Kiffin.

Dooley said he would not release Douglas to any team on Tennessee's schedule.

What are we doing to recruit this guy?

As a redshirt soph. next year, he will have two years of eligiblilty after sitting out a year. Appears to be a stud.

DD is going to have five new offensive lineman next year. WOW!

Maybe Dooley will reccommend La Tech to him.

It would be nice to see him come to Tech. He has two former teammates here, also. (wouldn't they have been there when he was red shirting?)

I'm not sure if you're allowed to 'recruit' a transfer player. Is that allowed?

I kinda wonder if he's looking to get back into catching passes. His scout profile raves about his pass-catching and route running abilities.

I don't think you can discount the damage that a year under the Kiff did to it.

DD rebuilding from the ground up, just like he had to do here. They need to give him more than 2 years to be successful. That program was a disaster when he was hired.

That might get him back into our, or at least my, good graces.

Well I don't know if Dykes or Franklin can call him or actively recruit him but Creer and Paige can most certainly call an "old friend"

    from ncaa.org

A student-athlete (or his or her parents) may not be contacted by another institution's athletics department staff member without first obtaining written permission from the student-athlete's current athletics director. This written permission usually is sent directly to the other institution, and is not given to the student-athlete. However, a student-athlete may write a letter to another institution expressing his or her interest in transferring. The original institution must provide the student-athlete with the opportunity for a hearing before a committee outside the athletics department (e.g., office of student affairs) if written per-mission to contact the second institution is not granted. The other institution shall not en-courage the student-athlete to transfer, and may not provide the student-athlete with financial aid until he or she has attended the institution for one academic year if the release is not granted.

I saw this kid play every home game at Maryville HS as a tight end and he was a man among boys. Huge! He's the real deal and my thoughts exactly... wondered if Dooley gave Tech a good word?

It sounds like the kid has some issues (baggage).....
If Dooley doesn't want him...and Dooley isn't willing to work things out with him.... I don't see any reason to think we would want him...

Good kid, good family. So far local news giving "personal issues" as a reason. All kind of murkey right now. Let's face it... three coaches, three years is taking its toll.
