If he likes to travel to faraway places he should choose TECH.

As a TECH team member, he would get to fly to Hawaii, Nevada (Reno and Las Vegas), California (Fresno and San Jose), Idaho (Boise and Moscow), Utah, and New Mexico.

At MTSU, he would travel to play in Monroe, Lafayette, Jonesboro, Troy, Bowling Green, Little Rock, Mobile, Denton, and 2 places in Florida where the Sun Belt schools are located.

I've been to many of these places and I would take the WAC travel sites over the Sun Belt. There are many other reasons to choose TECH but getting to travel to neat places is one area where we have an advantage over the Sun Belt.

Why go to MTSU? He'll get no cajun food up there.

This guy put up 25 against Marquette, 20 against Oklahoma, and 19 against us.

I think he's an immediate starter if he comes here.

I definately agree that he would be a starter and would be a guy that the team would focus on getting the ball to and could knock down some clutch shots for us.

    Perez committed to Middle Tennessee.

    MTSU lands men's basketball transfer

    By ADAM SPARKS • SPARKS@DNJ.COM • April 7, 2010

Centenary guard David Perez has verbally committed to transfer to MTSU for the 2010-11 season, as confirmed by his current coach.

Perez, a 6-foot-3 shooting guard, led Centenary in scoring at 15.1 points per game last season. Centenary is dropping from Division I to Division III, so Perez will be eligible to play for the Blue Raiders immediately in the 2010-11 season.
“(Perez) is an excellent shooter and he has very good ball skills,” Centenary coach Greg Gary said. “... It’s an extremely tough situation where we’re (dropping down to Division III), and I would never let him go anywhere if we weren’t in this situation. But you always want to help your kids land in the best situation, and Middle Tennessee looks to be a good fit for him.”

Perez is expected to sign with MTSU next Wednesday in the NCAA late signing period. He will be a junior for the Blue Raiders this season. MTSU is expected to sign one more player in the 2010-11 recruiting class.

“I know David felt really comfortable with Middle Tennessee’s staff and their players, and that’s why he’s going there,” Gary said. “And I know with our situation, he wanted a chance to stay at this (Division I) level or maybe even go to a higher level of play.”

Perez shot 43 percent from 3-point range and 84 percent from the foul line last season, and he led the NCAA in free-throw percentage (27-of-27) early in the season. He also averaged 2.6 rebounds and 1.9 assists.

Perez has had success against Sun Belt Conference teams. He scored 27 points against Louisiana-Monroe and 22 points against Louisiana-Lafayette, and Centenary won both games.

Perez also scored 20 against Oklahoma and 25 versus Marquette, and he had a career-high 32 points in a win over Southwestern Assemblies of God. He scored 20-plus points in the season’s first four games and reached double figures 22 times on the season.

Perez, a New Iberia, La. native, earned third-team honors on the Louisiana Sports Writers Association (LSWA) All-Louisiana squad.

Perez also plays baseball at Centenary, and he will at least consider doing the same at MTSU.

An outfielder and right-handed pitcher, Perez has a .240 batting average and one home run in nine games this season. On the mound, he has allowed no hits and no runs in 2 2/3 innings.

Perez de-commits from Middle Tennessee (Posted on the Belt board by CajunT)

Centenary guard David Perez told The Daily Advertiser that he has de-committed from Middle Tennessee and is now considering UL after visiting campus.

Perez, a graduate of Catholic High of New Iberia, toured UL on Friday morning with head coach Bob Marlin and assistant Darby Rich before driving back to Shreveport to play a Friday night baseball game. He committed to Middle Tennessee last week before withdrawing his pledge Tuesday. (HERE is my blog from last night looking at his expected visit.)

The 6-foot-3 shooting guard was a third team All-Louisiana selection this past season as a sophomore, averaging 15.1 points per game on 43 percent shooting from 3-point range. Perez also averaged 2.6 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game.

With Centenary making the drop to NCAA Division III, Perez would be eligible to play for the Ragin' Cajuns immediately in the 2010-11 season.

Perez, a former walk-on at Centenary, plans to decide between the Cajuns and Blue Raiders within the next two weeks. The NCAA's signing period started Wednesday and runs until May 19.

Boy loves him some Sunbelt, I guess.

It would also be fun to turn this into another "Louisville is the REAL UL" thread, don't you think? If so, here is an alternate response to this post:

I can see why he'd pick Louisville over MTSU. But is he also considering ULL? The Cajuns reference is confusing... :icon_wink:

Pretty embarrassing we couldn't land this guy being just 60 miles down the road from him. Guess he was too close for us.

Lets move on. I would be VERY interested in seeing who his other offers were more than likely the seriousness of his five offers went something like this:

    MTSU
    ULL
    ULM
    North Texas
La Tech (Simply because we have a little room right now)

Not sure what to think of the guy, with only Sunbelt and one half hearted WAC offer. That said, he absoulutely lit it up against us that night, it was just his night- oh and Tech still won!

Know North Texas didn't have an interest. Only two I know of are the Muts and ULL.

    Re: Perez to Tech?

I've bit my tongue numerous times concerning Perez b/c I thought we might sign him. He has a nice shot, but he is a terrible defender. He also tends to clam up if he's closely defended. I watched him play many times and never thought he was very good. He might not sniff the court at ULL.
