We should have been all over this kid, one of the best players out of Baton Rouge this past year.. We have got to stop letting these guys leave the state

Rooster, i am going to say this the best way i know how. We should wish him well at UNT. He will do well there. He was on my AAU team this past season.

Let me see if I can translate what Mike is really saying...

"This is once again another kid that I coached that could play at Tech and no one in Ruston would listen"

    That is my guess

I still think we should have more local guys on our roster, local meaning Louisiana, Mississippi, Arkansas. You would think there has to be at least 1 kid per year in Louisiana somewhere that can play at Tech...

Lot of work to do before we can tag him with a D1 lable.

I second that. We beat the local teams this year. LSU is lucky they weren't on our schedule.

you just have to get the right local guys. lacedarius dunn (baylor superstar), storm warren (lsu starting pf), kendrick washington (houston starting pf), dwayne lathan (we know his backstory, indiana state's second-leading scorer), elijah millsap (we know his backstory, uab's leading scorer and rebounder).

that's a starting 5 right there just off the top of my head and all within an hour's drive of ruston along the i-20 corridor. that's not even talking about expanding your recruiting zone into cenla, south louisiana, east texas, south arkansas and west mississippi.

there are really good players out there. the trick is identifying them early, and then staying on them to both make sure they get eligible and attract them to ruston. is it easy? no. if it was, we'd have been doing it all this time. but it's not impossible.

Re: Istrouma's McGhee commits to North Texas

If there are local guys that can play and we have a chance to get, I hope we go for them. HOWEVER, I get tired of this argument. We should go after the best players we can possibly get no matter if they are in Athens, Louisiana or Athens, Greece. Just get the talent in and coach them up. I don't care where a player is from if he is good and can get us a WAC championship.

Everything you say is true, but how is a staff supposed to know who the star players are as soon as they get into town and have the relationship to bring them in within a year or two? They brought in guys they already knew and thought they could get here. Now that some time has passed there are some local young players on the radar.
