How about hiring Leon Barmore as an assistant coach. He still wants to coach and would probably be one hell of a recruiter. And, he would be just a great guy to have in the program. He was a heck of a point guard when I was at Tech in the late 60's.

Leon burned a bridge with Reneau when he retired from the Techsters.
He made some public comments about Reneau and the university not wanting to spend the necessary money on the athletic program. Everything he said was true, but Reneau was offended by it and apparently made some private comments that Leon was no longer welcome in Tech athletics. I don't know the exact comments, but I'm sure others can fill in the blanks.
So, as good as it would be to have Leon back in the fold, I don't know that it will happen.
He originally took the Techsters job as a way to become the men's head coach, but never made the leap. If he still has that itch, maybe he would take it. The question is, would DR stand in the way?
Neither Reneau or Barmore seems to be the kind of person that holds a grudge. I fail to see any reason why shit like this is put on the open board.

I put it out there because it's been there several times before, and because you asked about Leon coming back. I'm going out on a limb here and guessing that you didn't graduate at the head of your Dale Carnegie class.
What about giving Condie a shot...
He has a Utah St background and seems to be a young go getter -
''Don't be a bad dagh..."
This is what I am betting on. Big question, though, is who will fill the empty position, whether it is the assoc slot or a regular asst position.
Just for the sake of brainstorming, I was pondering whether Malone would be interested in being a "real" coach. Then I got to thinking, "I wonder what John Stockton is up to these days and whether he'd be interested in coaching at the college level..."
this is the guy. he's got 6 years in the southland, is young and energetic, a great recruiter who has contacts all across the state. bring him home!

DR doesn't hold grudges? Since when?
I'm an asshole! What's your excuse?
