Two WAC players were taken in the first round. Hope Smith goes to the Saints in the second.
Did anyone watch? Did anyone see Gruden worship the ground Tebow walked on and argue every single thing Kiper had to say about Tebow? That whole broadcast was hilarious between picks.
Yeah, and even the guy interviewing Tebow seemed to be crowning him an All Pro. All the reasons Gruden was giving for drafting Tebow were exactly why he was a gamble... he's good for the locker room, he was a winner in college, etc. But he's a project. Lots of guys with the same qualities, also Heisman winners, were drafted and failed in the NFL. In fact, several QBs from the state of Florida come to mind. Tebow may surprise people and eventually be viewed as a steal at #25, but I think he'll wind up being one of the bigger disappointments.
On a side note, I work with a ND graduate who was having a coronary about Clausen not being drafted. Pretty funny to watch the meltdown with each passing pick.
Gruden is a heck of a coach and you can ask any NFL GM and he will tell you the same thing. Gruden is smart and is the type of coach that players love to play for.
I think Gruden is a good coach, his only flaw is the love of the old QB. Of course, he was always about winning now and jumping to the next thing, so I understood his phlosophy, but he was never much into developing young QBs, which I thought was hilarious given the fact that he was evaluating all of the young QB's this year. He is good at getting the most out of an old QB that is not quite over the hill yet (Gannon and Garcia).
10 DTs off the board now.....
The Houston Texans just picked Ben Tate (Running Back from Auburn) with the 58th pick. The team now has Steve Slaton, Ryan Moats, and Ben Tate as RBs.
