Tulane was just awarded $13.5 million of your tax dollars to upgrade lab space at the J Bennett Johnson building.
The money comes from the federal stimulus bill that was passed last year.

At least there will be an updated lab when this money is blown. Most of the stimulus spending, so far, has been on welfare entitlements that we get absolutely zero return on investment on. In fact, we get a negative return. All it accomplishes is further entrenching the dependency of people who simply will not get off of their asses and take care of themselves and their own children. They wallow in the lifestyle that is that of the government dependent in exchange for a life free of responsibility. There is not enough money in the world that could fix what is wrong with these people.

Makes you wonder if LSU has already received their "fair share". Tech's "fair share" would be butkus.

I think I've posted this before, but a few years ago I was following the Board of Regents' decision on some fellowship funding I was hoping my department would be able to dip into. Well, we didn't get it. Engineering got a little, but Tulane was awarded around 3 times as much money as Tech.

This is all the more reason we need a president who will pursue private funding as though we were a private school. Part of the rationale for how the money was awarded was that they gave it to programs who had a demonstrated investment in their own program. If we were maximizing our private funding--in particular working hard to beef up our endowment--then we would have the seed money that would then beget more money.
