    Merged 4 year boards?

Looks like a merge of the 4 year school boards missed this time but it is not the last attempt. Good or Bad for TECH if this ever goes through?

That was one of the major propositions that the Tucker Commission worked all year to come up with... Tucker and Jindal co-sponsored the bill, but it was shot down by the House Education Committee... so it won't even get debated on the floor, much less voted on... What a waste! This bill would have saved a lot of administrative costs with the merger and eliminated a lot of duplication in higher ed... I guess this means there will be no constructive higher ed reform in Louisiana, and our state will continue to wallow around in the worst higher ed system in the US...

I believe Tech has positioned itself and would be ready for the transition. Like the SEC in football they are (new buzzword:icon_wink proactive.

Personally, I'm not comfortable with it, but this state has GOT to change its ways. Huey Long has been dead a long time.

Unfortunately, the sad truth is there are still more people in Louisiana that are willing to accept the current status of higher education in the State rather than give up one inch of "turf" for the advancement of both. That's the main reason I no longer live there.

A lot of it is economics. These other schools will always have support from their community and region to continue - it means a lot to their local economy. Any politician that tries to really change this by shutting down or merging universities will be unpopular in those regions and lose votes.

The problem started when they made them into 4 year institutions. We wouldn't have this problem now, if that had not happened. Now, it is going to take elected officials that want to do the RIGHT thing and not just get re-elected. How many of those do you know?????????????

This proposal was just to merge the system boards.

First- someone who hasn't even graduated college is on the education committee? and in the legislature? What the hell?

Second- can't blame LSU. There's enough of them on there to do it I they wanted it.

LSU is against it. With the current system, LSUBR has total control of themselves and all of their satellites. With a merged system, LSUBR would be challenged by the ULS schools for funding, programs, decisions, resources, etc. They would also lose control of the other LSU schools, and LSUBR is the only thing that's keeping LSUS from offering PhDs.
