McCown 'showed a very strong arm with a good over-the-top release"

Salary and age are in Luke McCowan's favor with the Jaguars, though there is no quarterback controversy.

This is what Charlie Bernstein said on JagNation yesterday, (5-3-10) following Luke's first exposure to Jacksonville fans and media as the backup quarterback, a role which Luke acknowledges. However "McCown is looking to get better each and every day for the good of the team," Bernstein writes. And, he adds, "if McCown continues to impress and David Garrard continues to struggle," the Jags will have to consider the difference in salary and age between Luke and Garrard, "two very important factors."

And, "there was no quarterback controversy in 2007 either," Bernstein said.

The jags.com writer thought he stood out in mini-camp, too.

Who was your underwear MVP of the weekend?

Vic: Luke McCown had a great mini-camp. He’s a solid candidate.

That writer calls mini-camps "underwear practices" because they aren't in full pads (or something like that).

The point is that it's a different game when it's full speed and full pads, so he makes a distinction on who looks good in camp versus "real" practices.
