Should THE PLAYERS be the 5th Major?

Since the new Fed Ex Cup was started, each tournament is worth a certain about of points. The majors are worth a lot more points.

Majors are worth 100 fixed.

The Players is worth 80 fixed which is higher than the other tournaments which I believe are not fixed and get as high as 78.

Four major tournaments is enough.

While the Players is very prestigious, it's just not close to any of the major events. FWIW, this discussion was taking place 20 years ago when the tournament was only 16 years old. The media loves to water down classic events. That's all this talk of a 5th major has ever been...an attempt to extort more money out of sponsors.

The owner of the tournament and the media -

The Players is officially owned by the PGA Tour

The US Open is officially owned by the US Golf Association

The Open Championship is officially owned by the Royal & Ancient Golf Club etc etc etc

The PGA Championship is officially owned by the PGA membership (not the tour)

Not that a college football fan has room to talk, but golf is one heck of an arbitrary sport. At least there aren't Russian judges to worry about (although wins count less if you gain the lead early, right?).
