so....I think it was said that recruiting for next season opend back up on 1 May....one of the big focuses was to land a punter...anyone have input?
although...maybe 1 May wasn't a rule....cause I saw we signed a Safety last month....but I could have sworn that I saw something saying the coaches
were gearing up for the recruiting season to open back up in May....

And what's the story on the safety? I must have missed it but I saw on scout that we had an extra guy.
Our offense requires alot of bodies. I just don't think we can afford to offer a punter right now.
From what we've seen recently, I'm not sure we can afford not to IF a good one is available.
How many games did we lose last year due to poor field position? I think we have to go after a punter..whenever your punter from last year gets moved to third string due to walk-ons you have a problemOriginally Posted by dogbone

I had previously heard that Oregon State was claiming the walk on punter had been in a game when he had not. It sounded like Orgen State were being DBs and wanted to keep him around without a scholarship.

Well, I will tell you. I saw Allen punt in person a handful of times, and he was light-years better than Johnny Hekker. We’re talking punts that went above the stadium, ala an NFL leg. His only downside was consistency.
It begs the question: why would Riley spend so much time developing an equally inconsistent punter with a worse leg in Johnny Hekker? Anyone who watched pregame kicking could see Allen was the man. I’ll be curious to follow Allen’s career at Louisiana Tech. I’d be surprised if he doesn’t make the NFL, where as Johnny Hekker has no shot. To me this is as egotistical as Mike Riley gets.
