You have a valid concern. The whole point of this realignment stuff is that every school is out to get all the money they can get for themselves. Anything that makes it easier for the "rich" schools and harder for the "poor" schools is bad for Tech. How much different that would be from the status quo is hard to say.

These large programs have inflated athletic budgets. Gate money from bodybag games provides the necessary funds to keep it going. If there were a true 6 Home 6 Away schedule, they would lose a lot of money.

If the non-BCS schools agreed collectively to avoid bodybag games and stick to regional matches, the BCS would change its tune quite rapidly. They need Non-AQ schools, but won't admit it.
I agree whoe heartedly. Remember they tried once before with the CFA and it really didn't work out. They did that so they wouldn't have to share TV money. The CFA had CBS and NCAA had ABC, if I remember correctly. Now there's too much TV money out there requiring so many games every week.

The NCAA may have an anti trust exemption but it may not carry over to some professional college group. It wouldn't require congress to do anything. As a matter of fact congress would have to act to give them an exemption. Maybe the IVY league would start the suit with all those Harvard lawyers.

The other way of looking at it is with fewer conferences it might be easier to make sure all of the conferences get a spot in any future playoff systems. Then it doesn't matter as much that we are in a weaker conference.

If the Big 12 got decimated I could see us ending up there with some of the C-USA schools. Keeping the AQ status would be next to impossible probably though. It would probably become the Big East or Mountain West of that system. The one that is always on the edge one way or the the other. The main thing is we just need to do everything we can to improve our situation.
I definitely think that fewer conferences would allow for a quicker transition to a playoff system. We would be at 7 or 8 conferences. Having super conferences would also limit the transition from FCS to FBS.

8 conferences with 16 teams enables 128 teams to survive at this level. It also makes it easy for the feds to get involved to argue that conference champions belong in a playoff. Don't be shocked if long term they are angling for this though even if the feds dont get involved. A playoff would be a HUGE revenue generator. They are not stupid. They know this is a more lucrative possibility going forward. The deal now is making sure that those who are getting paid now get paid then (the bowls). It is not about the students and how many games they play and it never has been. Its all about the $$$
