I haven't seen this discussed here, but heard on the radio this week the reason for the double header...

Texas was originally scheduled to be a two day deal, but when Ruston/Tech got the high school championship series Wade called Texas and asked them for the double header on Sunday so his guys could stay home on Saturday to help show off Louisiana Tech to all the high school fans/student coming to town. Nice move Wade!
