Working Off-shore?
i was wondering if there were many out here who've done rig work in the past. I've been looking for work in southeast LA since I graduated- with little luck. I got a bite about a week ago from Schlumberger, and may end up getting an offer for some 14 on, 14 off work out of Houma.
I just wanted to see if there were some opinions out there about the work, life on a rig, etc.
I really have no idea if I want the job or not.
Also, if anyone happens to have experience working in oilfield services, that would be cool, too.

Re: Working Off-shore?
What's your degree in, and would you be interested in a no schedule job. I typically work about 2 weeks, then get 2-3 days off. Pay is good to start, and quickly becomes excellent, but home life suffers.

Re: Working Off-shore?
Ohh, and I work on land, not offshore. I stay in DFW mainly, but have worked all over Texas, and in the Haynesville (Shreveport area). We also have work in NY, PA, ND, WY, CO, and elsewhere.

Who do you work for? What is a 'no schedule job'?
14 on with only 3 off sounds kind of rough.
I have a BS in Construction Engineering Technology, btw.

Re: Working Off-shore?
DDC, The Directional Drilling Company. I really love my job, but have times when I get burnt out. There isn't a better company to work for, they really take care of you, and I know many many guys that came from Schlumberger, Baker Hughes, Weatherford, and others that wouldn't leave DDC for anything.
What job was Schlumberger offering?

Re: Working Off-shore?
It's a Field Specialist position. They don't really having anything that fits my degree 100%. They have stuff for Civil's and stuff for People with 'technical' degrees (2yr). - Another reason I'm not sure.
I'm not really stoked about working for them, but they're offering me 50K for the first year, and I have loan payments coming up before too long.

Re: Working Off-shore?
If you are a single man with no kids, jump on it. I would love to have 2 weeks off out of a month. While you are on shift, you may work a lot or very little depending on what your job entails. The food can be very good and you can eat to your heart's content.
