We compete in Formula 1, Boise competes in NASCAR. We compete against those that raise and spend vast sums of money on R&D, that advance technology for the betterment of society, that attract the most elite athletes and intelligentsia, that are known around the world, and that attract the hottest supermodels and celebrities. "Regional Universities" do no none of the above and generally produce delinquents and other vices of bad taste.
    Jordan Mills on choosing Tech:
“It’s a great experience seeing them play. It was a good atmosphere. The fans stood up the whole game and never sat down. They have a great fan base.”

    I think Guiss meant IRL...

The lowest of the low in auto racing...

$$$$$ wise sponsorship wise etc etc etc

I think we compete in NASCAR - since Forumla One can only field 14 to 18 teams at any given time....

BTW - how many times a race are they restricted/allowed to push the "pass/boost" button?

Yea, I thought thay was kind of a tricked up gimmick. I kept thinking that each car should have a big green light that glowed when the button was pushed. But NASCAR plays around with their rules too.

But not where the foot meets the peddle or how many times the foot can press the peddle...

Push to Pass is a joke....

In Formula 1? They don't have one. The sporting regulations allowed the teams to use a KERS (kinetic energy recovery system) for one season (2009). The teams that were driving a KERS-equipped car could use 80 hp of "boost" (not to be confused with nitrous or forced induction) for a total of 6.67 seconds per lap. KERS was a system that the teams engineered to recover energy during braking, which was stored on the KERS flywheel (I think there was a supercapacitor version, too), and could be added to the drivetrain on-demand. Most teams did not even use the system because (1) it is very expensive to develop, (2) it raises the center of gravity of the car, and (3) reduces the amount of ballast that could be added to the car.

Lol, a typical BBB thread. Start talking about a college football team and possible conference affiliation and develop to a discussion of auto racing and speed enhancing devices.

Speaking of speed enhancing devices - looks like the IRL will going to the "Batman" car and NASCAR will be adding EFI for the 2011 season....

WHAT?!? I always thought that part of the charm of NASCAR was the use of pre-1980s technology.

But there’s less excitement.

    Was 2007 that long ago?

The WAC has sent two teams (3 times) to a BCS bowl. Why in the world can people not remember this?

I believe the quote was in reference to a SBC-like WAC - meaning that no SBC teams have been headed for a BCS bid.

Right. But 2 WAC teams have. One of which will probably still be in the conference.

His point is that without Boise, the WAC is sunbeltish because we won't have a chance at a BCS bowl. But he is wrong. Hawaii went to a BCS bowl before. I suppose you could argue that playing Boise helped (since Boise was probably the best team they beat that year and would have helped their SOS), but the fact is Boise is not the only BCS team in the conference.

It would be a longshot (even more than now) but a Boise-less WAC team could go to a BCS bowl. The fact that we'll still have a former BCS bowl team in the conference makes it a lot more likely then a MAC or SB team going.
