A&M is starved for cash because its athletic department fell $16 million into debt and received a loan from the school's general fund to pay it off, causing a rift between the university and athletics. That rift, in part, led to A&M school president Elsa Murano to resign under pressure because she was pushing for the money to be paid back and was met with resistance by A&M system chancellor Mike McKinney, whose sons played football at A&M, and possibly even Texas Gov. Rick Perry, an Aggie who is still very involved in the school's politics.

I'm calling HUGE BS on this "writer" and any "info" he is putting forward. LAst time I checked TAM was the most endowed school in the US as far as their athletic program was concerned...unless they blew a couple BILLION while I wasn't looking.

I wonder what Eager Eagle / GoGold thinks about this. I wonder if he will start bashing A&M on random message boards now that this info is public.

OOps...i was referring to the overall endowment in billions..loks like the've had a infusion or two into athletics as of late. That absolutely blows my mind. Aside from the two Eagle articles I can't find any other info on ath loans.

Don't shoot me. Just telling you what they reported.

They are still saying that this is extremely premature per source at the AD meeting in Kansas city.

He only stated, "its athletic department fell $16 million into debt" not their endowment.

Here is a direct link to tonight's story in the Boulder Daily Camera. It appears as if the story from earlier today could be true. The Buff AD believes the invitations will indeed be coming this weekend.

"The longer that we were together in Kansas City it appeared that that rumor or speculation did have some validity to it," Bohn said in an interview with the Camera as he left the Big 12 spring meetings here today."
