In the article posted on the Chronicle's webpage, notice how the UofH is announcing new facilities, even though they are giving themselves a year to do the fund raising! This is how you make a splash and also get alumni excited enough to give! (note the comments below the article)

You do not wait until you show 'secret' drawings around at social events and hope you get the funding all in place before you make announcements!

Also note how their AD says he is very happy and proud to be in CUSA, but the next sentence he says " we are always looking to better our situation"! That says to me that the timing of this announcement was not coincidental!

Exactly! They know that there is a possibility of the B12 staying together and getting an invite. Although, I think the B12 would be wise to reach outside of Texas.

Great post DFIH. UH knows how to launch a marketing program, and they are timing this announcement so that they get their name out in front of the Big 12 leftovers and the media while it matters! They are also givng themselves time to build momentum up to and including the coming football season. Meanwhile, at LA Tech, everything --from conference pursuits to new facilities development-- is still top secret.

Some schools just get it. I thought for a while (I almost posted this on the Dooley thread) that we were on the way to being 1B in the state. Now it seems we are still in that area of trying to separate ourselves from the ULs.

I don't get why we aren't pushing forward with plenty of things. Every time it gets mentioned though it seems I get slapped with the we need more LTAC money. Maybe we need to do better with our fundraising then.
