Why would anyone want to purchase the archives of the Sporting News?

To make money. John has turned a hobby he had as a kid into a multimillion $ business.
Simple, he has probably invented a time machine and will need those archives when he goes "back to the future"
He probably makes big money off of royalties when people use pictures or quote articles that he owns. I don't know John, but it sounds like he is doing well for himself.
He found out I had a couple of my images purchased by The Sporting News. His holdings got more valuable. :icon_wink:

The idea is to buy wholesale and sell retail. There is apparently a market which he has perfected how to operate in it.

Because all those photos are copyrighted and may have value for selling to public. As you probably would know, The Sporting News has lots of baseball history significance.
