From louisiana.gov... This is the chart that was presented to our state legislature this year...
Grambling's average ACT score is a 16.6, #13 of 14, only better than SUNO...
ACT College Readiness Benchmark Minimums from ACT.org:
- English = 18
- Math = 22
- Reading = 21
- Science = 24
- Composite = 21
Only 3% of Grambling's students qualify for TOPS, #13 of 14, only better than SUNO...
TOPS Requirements:
- At least a 20 on the ACT
- At least a 2.5 high school GPA
- Earn at least a 2.3 by the end of their freshman year
- Maintain at least a 2.5 after all other years
From Grambling's profile on collegeboard.com...
Must meet one (1) of the following:
- 2.0 GPA
- 20 ACT Composite (19 ACT for spring or summer admission)
- rank in the Top 50% of HS Graduation Class
Must meet one (1) of the following:
- 18 ACT English
- 19 ACT Math
- 4% in top 10th of graduating class
- 33% in top quarter of graduating class
- 47% in top half of graduating class
- 2% had h.s. GPA of 3.75 and higher
- 5% had h.s. GPA between 3.5 and 3.74
- 9% had h.s. GPA between 3.25 and 3.49
- 16% had h.s. GPA between 3.0 and 3.24
- 35% had h.s. GPA between 2.5 and 2.99
- 29% had h.s. GPA between 2.0 and 2.49
- 4% had h.s. GPA between 1.0 and 1.99
How does Grambling have the 5th best graduation rate in Louisiana when the majority of their students do not belong at a 4-year university?
*Note: The ACT figures are slightly lower than the scores each school releases after the 9th day of classes in September because the state averages the scores of all students who matriculate throughout the year. First-time students who enroll in the winter, spring, and summer typically have lower scores than the traditional students who enroll in the fall. Tech's average ACT score for students who matriculated in the Fall Quarter has been greater than the reported FY08-09 score of 22.9 for the past 3 years (23.2 in 2007, 23.3 in 2008, 23.3 in 2009). Hope that clears up any confusion I've caused due to discrepancies between any figures I've previously posted. To be fair to Grambling, I tried to search their archives for their fall figures, but none of their gram.edu archives links work except for this month and December 2009.

Here are some posts from GSU's official Facebook pages over the past few days... All I can say is . . .
Grambling State University ATTENTION All potential juco's (Jr. College): If you are eligible to go to a 4-yr HBCU, why waste your time at a JUCO. You risk losing credits during the transfer. If you have any desires to advance your education past the associate leve, take the smart route and enroll at the educational hub of the South...GSU, we thought you knew.
Grambling State University If you are a new freshman wishing to enroll @ GSU for the fall, and you didn't meet the English or math ACT score requirement, you can take an English or math course at a regionally accredited community college this summer. If you pass the class, AND MEET THE OTHER ADMISSION CRITERIA, you can be admitted for the fall. ...Contact Admissions to make sure the college you plan to enroll for the summer is accredited.

Tech you see the trend, SHREVEPORT BELONGS TO GRAMBLING !!!! SEPT. 4, 2010 !!!
*I can't believe I am actually wasting keystrokes to respond to this*
It could be due to the fact that Grambling is better equipped to help students like these that Tech and other PWCs in the state wouldn't even bother to deal with. If these students are coming out of high school with these scores, it obviously speaks to other socio-economic condition that some of you will likely ignore or view as an excuse.
Historically speaking, the academic mission at Grambling is different than it is at La.Tech. But just because it is different it doesn't make it deficient.
Very professional sounding. I am sure Harvard, Duke, Stanford, and other highly-regarded academic institutions also have things like "we thought you knew" and speak of "butt whippings" on their advertisements, along with pictures of a kid peeing on another school's logo. Very classy.
GSU functions just like a JUCO... and advertises GSU to students who should be going the JUCO route... but GSU is a 4-year university and receives the funding of a 4-year university... Anyway, tell someone something good about Grambling State University... Tell someone you love them... Start with me...I love you!
