I've been in the book store at LSU and I want to say it's a Barnes and Noble and it's full of Tigger stuff. Maybe with B&N taking over we will see a lot more stuff than before.

The Mississippi State B&N has plenty of MSU gear and it is quality.
I think there will be plenty of Tech stuff in the new bookstore, they just have to get to licenses worked out for B&N to purchase Tech merchandise to sell. My understanding is that B&N will continue to use the current location for the immediate future, but I wouldn't expect them to stay there for long.
Quick look at a few peer institutes' bookstores...

Does this mean that the bookstore will lose it's monopoly on Tech gear? The arrangement we have had in the past has kept the athletic department from making money off of the items that are sold at the bookstore on game days. This has always needed to change, and now is probably the time get rid of that contract. No need for Barnes and Noble to have that same kind of monopoly when the sports teams are the ones that bring in the customers on game day.
On the other hand, in order for B&N to sell Tech gear, they will have to obtain a license. Hopefully that license will also allow us to get other stores in the Shreve/Bossier area licensed as well.
This could be a very good thing for our athletic department, because there is potential to bring in hundreds of thousands of dollars per year in sales.
Anyone know the details?

Honestly, I don't know what licensing agreement is in place, if any.
We have had the discussion on this board many times about Tech gear not being available in local department stores and grocery stores, when tons of stuff is available from other schools. The reason given has always been that there were licensing difficulties, and that Tech would not sign the agreements that other schools signed.
Tech always allowed the Tech bookstore to be the main supplier of Tech gear. I assume they thought this was a way to keep all of the profits for themselves, rather than share with a licensing firm. I disagree with that stance, but that is the topic of another thread.
So, the point of my eariler post was this: If Tech is no longer in the bookstore business, then who controls the rights to sell Tech garb? If B&N will have the license to do so, then that could mean that other stores in the Ark-La-Tex-Miss area would be able to do the same. If B&N will not have much Tech stuff in the store, as Choudawg says, then it could mean that Tech is still trying to be stingy with the license.
Does anyone know the scoop on licensing of Tech merchandise?
