That's because the current bookstore has so much crap that nobody buys and has been sitting on the shelves for years... They have all kinds of stuff with messed up Tech logos... Just some examples... hard to find since their site has now been shut down...
OMG ARE THOSE COOZIES???
Cards... Is the bookstore promoting gambling too??
They even tried to sell a white shirt with a huge LSU helmet on it for the Tech-LSU game, and you couldn't even tell that it was a Tech shirt...
I will be very pleased if the B&N bookstore offers less merchandise with better quality and uses these logos...
The GSU bookstore is run by B&N.
We need somebody on the inside to tell us if there's a clause for partial profits on gameday sales.
Barnes and Noble runs both the UConn and Yale bookstores and both have plenty of school gear and other stuff in them. I agree with the poster who said the Tech bookstore kept stuff in stock that nobody would buy anyway. Most of the merchandise in that place was pretty terrible. They were still selling a lot of the old logo merch when I left. B&N can only be a good thing. I don't think people are realizing that yet. Another thing people don't realize is that the book buying process is much more streamlined with these guys. Text books are checked out seperately in a different section of the store and you don't have to wait nearly as long to get them. The Tech bookstore always staffed the same four cashiers during the book rush even though there are probably 10 or 12 lanes in there.
Does anyone know where they would put a new bookstore on campus if they decide to move out of the current location?
The new bookstore will be in the research park. Until that building is complete (which could be a while), the current store will be renovated around Christmas.
I would guess that most of the negative info and rumors going around about B&N is coming from current bookstore administration/staff. We have all seen how negatively they react to change and/or competition with techteamshop.com. It would not surprise me one bit to have them bad-mouthing the new operation (that they likely have no inside knowledge of) who has taken control away from their little kingdom.
