Sad news today. Chip, a member of the Louisiana Department of Economic Development team for north Louisiana, has suffered a massive stroke, and is not expected to live.
Chip was a fellow journalism student with me and several of our board members, beginning in 1973. He was a staff member for Jerry Huckaby, and economic developer with Macon Ridge, before taking a job with state DED.

Chip's full name is Hines "Chip" Rogers.

Chip had helped the Claiborne Chamber of Commerce over the years with different projects. For the past couple of years I had worked with him as he has tried to help with the L&NW railroad upgrade project. Very sorry to here this has happened. Thoughts and prayers to him and his family.
Very sorry to hear the news. He was one born for politics.
I knew Chip when he lived in Vidalia And worked with Macon Ridge Economic Development. He and his family were strong members of my church, First Baptist Church, Vidalia; and Chip led the Childrens sermon for over a year. The latest report that I am getting is that the doctors have said that there is nothing that they can do for Chip and that they are consulting with the family to turn the machines off. Chip was a outstanding La. Tech Alumni and a good supporter. Please pray for the family.

Chip Rogers passed away very peacfully about 6:50 P. M. Monday Night. Please pray for Julie and the children Katherine and Carson Rogers. Louisiana Tech has lost a great Alumni, supporter and sports fan. Vidaliadawg.

Chip passed away Monday evening around 6:50. The arrangements are as follows:
Visitation Wednesday 5 to 8 p.m. Rose-Neath Funeral Home, Mansfield LA
Service Thursday 10 a.m. First Baptist Church , Mansfield LA
Interment Cemetery in Keatchie LA
The family requests that memorials be sent to First Baptist Church, Mansfield LA or the Capitol One Bank where a college fund is being set up for the children. Name of the fund will be forthcoming.
The family asks that you continue to remember them in your prayers.

I never knew Chip. His time predated my time in the Tech Journalism dept. That said, I was still fortunate to learn of Chip's legacy via the cheap and sordid stories passed on by some of our less desirable Journalism dept members, such as Dawgpix and Tech77. :icon_wink:
