Both of those are great and all but you must have one thing. WIND
well, confess my brotha's, how may ducks you got in your fields? checked ours at lunch and there were prob 100 sitting scattered over the pond. This could be a real good year for hunting the creeks also. Several years ago it was real dry and the beaver ponds were dry. Darbonne creek was holding a lot of mallards then.
Got a call from our farmer in Jones yesterday. He said that our field was holding lots of pintail, teal, and gadwall. Not many mallards yet. Going to see if my son can kill his first duck on the youth hunt this Sat.
no water for us in the jonesville/ferriday area. could be bad year unless we get some rain.
struck out, sorta, this morning. Did have two come in well within range but it was just dark enough I couldnt ever get Brendan to see them. Had a squirrel just above us watching the whole thing. the ducks swam away from us and wasnt long my wife whispered "deer". I thought she was talking about out in the woods then she pointed back down Darbonne. Sure enough, had a doe wading darbonne about 40 yards from us. Had another chance to explain to the 7 year old that a "successful trip to the woods" doesnt always end with pulling the trigger and killing something. It was a pretty good morning.
We carried two 11-year old boys on Saturday. Lots of shooting, not much killing, but the boys had a blast. We saw more ducks Saturday morning than I've seen in a long time. Hope they stick around for a few more days.
10's of thousands of ducks on our place in Arkansas!

keep in mind that this report came secondhand from "some dude" originally hailing from Plain Dealing:icon_wink:. He actually texted me 100,000 ducks but seeing we only have 840 acres I can't see it..but who knows. Anyway you can't fit another duck on our place. Caqn't hardly wait for Saturday. Supposedly tons of mallards/big ducks as well.
