Several times when USM had 3rd and short they would line up in a power formation with their big guns on the line. I would like to see us use something like that for 3rd and short yardage, instead of the shotgun. What do you think?

We punted 8 times. How many times did we have 3rd and short? Seemed like it was 3rd and over 5 almost every time.Originally Posted by exit84

In Tony Franklin's playbook of 5 plays there is no formation other than shotgun.
And the wildcat that we only do once a game...which he probably copied from last year's play book.

The mistake was the read, not the formation...
And how many times did we try and run on first down Saturday and were facing anywhere from a 2nd and 8 to a 2nd and 11?

What's funny is that we make that call on 3rd and 2 on a drive where the QB running plays had finally started working. It was an interesting call.
But yeah, we've converted every 4th and short we've had this year, and all but three or four 3rd and shorts (1-2 yards). Short yardage isn't the problem...like Dwayne said, GETTING to short yardage is the problem.
No, not on first down, they really had our first down plays sniffed out pretty good - their offense always seemed to be in a 2 & 4 or 2 & 5 situation, it seemed that we were in 2 & 7+ all nite long...
I had NO problems with our short yardage package...
